My Fedora 17 laptop has a built-in Wireless PCIe card (RT3090), which is malfunctional.
I have a USB Wireless adapter that I use instead, and want to deactivate the PCIe.
On Windows, I could use the hardware switch to disable the inbuilt card, but this also disabled Bluetooth.
On Fedora, it seems to disable all the wireless hardware - my USB adapters (x3), the PCIe and the BT.
the title basicly says what I'd like to do:
my machine has integrated HD4000 graphics and a more powerful PCIe card
HD4000 is enough for everyday use, PCIe should be used only for gaming with Windows
through bios I can set the primary card
I'd like to disable (switch off, suspend) the PCIe slot when in linux to conserve power and also to turn off the PCIe card's fan
Is this possible?
I have H61M-ITX board with 1 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot (blue @ x16 mode)

I made clean Win XP SP3 install + all MB drivers on top. After I inserted pcie x4 card and boot up.
Today I installed Ubuntu 11.10 x64 on to my lenovo B570 using wubi.exe. After booting up, I discovered that I could not turn on wireless networking. I have a Atheros AR9285 wireless card.
I ran through the Ubuntu wireless troubleshooting guide, and the output suggest that the card has a driver, but it simply wont turn on!
I'm wondering if this card will work in a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot?
I'm building a new computer and want to make sure the motherboard will have the right slots for my hardware.
Thanks for any help.
Hello everyone.:) I installed Ubuntu 10.04 amd64. I cannot connect via wireless. When I left clink on the "wireless" icon on desktop, not reading any wireless spots. I have RaLink RT3090 PCIe for wireless card. Then I uninstalled Ubuntu 10.04.
Next I tried running Live CD (quicker than installing) of Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat Alpha3.

Hello Community! My first post here. I've been using Linux off and on for a few years now. I just loaded Fedora 17 on an older Compaq Presario with a Pentium 4 CPU 3.20GHz × 2 processor and 2GB RAM. I need a PCIe wireless-n card as neither of the two cards I already have work in Linux without jumping thru all the ndiswrapper hoops. I was wondering if someone could suggest a card?
On my desktop PC I have a netgear wireless pci card...
