Ok so i'm completely new to linux in every way possible. I thought i would give linux a try since there was no reason not to. Usually i can pick up on things and resolve them on my own but this isnt my usual. So i have installed mint 8 on my macbook pro. But i cant seen to get audio working or the backlight on the keyboard. Also my usb wifi adapter based on the rt3070 chip.
I have an nvidia 5500 fx and karmic 9.10 and cannot get it to work.
Code:
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5500] (rev a1)
I have tried the hardware drivers gui with ubuntu, same result (see below)
I have tried manual install of 185 driver, same result
I have tried the installer and driver from nvidia.com, same result
The following is the output of lspci from a terminal:
00:00.0 Host bridge: NVIDIA Corporation MCP79 Host Bridge (rev b1)
00:00.1 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation MCP79 Memory Controller (rev b1)
00:03.0 ISA bridge: NVIDIA Corporation MCP79 LPC Bridge (rev b2)
00:03.1 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation MCP79 Memory Controller (rev b1)
00:03.2 SMBus: NVIDIA Corporation MCP79 SMBus (rev b1)

Hi, I hope ive not posted this in the wrong place. Im totally new to Linux but im getting the hang of it slowly all except having no sound. Ive been browsing your forums for the last 3 hours trying all sorts of things to get my sound to work.
Hi there, I am not sure but since I updated to a Nvidia kernel, the webcam seems to be of a lower quality. Which sounds strange but I am unsure what could cause that, other than the update to Nvidia drivers.
