I have cable and a router. But quite often there is no WiFi.
But after a reboot everything is fine again.
This has become a frequent occurence.
Is the router failing?

Problem: Connecting a TV decoder via Internet. It doesn't have inbuilt wifi so wired LAN is the only option. I bought a second Wifi Router so I could use its LAN port to create a wired internet connection to my decoder.
What I want to achieve:
The second Wifi Router should basically pick up the signal from the main wifi router.
When I connect a network cable from my laptop to the router, the router does not detect this connection. The LED for the port (on the router) does not turn on. However, with the same cable and router, when I connect my other laptop, the wired connection works. The wireless connection works successfully for both laptops.
my ubuntu has worked well for about a year now but i have recently updated my internet package and with it got a new router. since the new router i have been unable to connect to wifi but cable is fine. it sees the connection and try,s to connect but keeps disconnecting.
I have 2 Netgear routers. One is connected to my broadband and works fine using Wifi. The other I have specifically to connect to a WD MybookliveDUO NAS drive via over a wired connection from my PC; again this works fine and I have superfast access the the NAS rather than using a slower Wifi connection to it.
I'm having trouble with wifi on my MSI U180 netbook using Ubuntu 12.04. When I boot up the netbook, it will connect to my router however after a few minutes the wifi will just stop working and not find or connect to any networks. The only way to get wifi connectivity back is to reboot the netbook however the connection will again only last a few minutes. A wired connection works fine.
My current network configuration comprises two routers, one of which [main] takes care of the wired part of my home network, the other of which [wifi] provides WiFi connectivity. The wired router is also connected to the internet.
I have such network layout: internet comes true fiber optics to modem. From modem LAN cable goes to router. Since that router wifi signal is weak LAN cable goes to another router from which I connect true wifi.
