Hi,
I just moved my Linux and Windows partitions on my new SSD.
Hi, I recently decided that I want to run a dual boot of Ubuntu 9.10 (main) and Winblows XP (games).
Has anyone backed up partitions and successfully restored them to a different drive? I need to be able to recover from a potential devastating failure of my boot drive (a precaution for a company server that cannot be down for more than a few hours).
I used to dual-boot XP and Suse (both on same disk, different partitions).
Just added Ubuntu 9.10, hoping to make it a 3rd boot option. Immediately lost XP.
My device.map file has the following:
(hd0) /dev/sda
(hd1) /dev/sdb
Windows is on /dev/sdb1 and Suse on /dev/sdb6 partitions, Ubuntu on /dev/sda.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a single disc which already had Windows 7 x64 on it. Windows was on two primary partitions, a very large partition C: and a small 100 mb partition. I've been using this computer for the past year with no problems.
During the installation of Ubuntu, I made four partitions: 1) /boot, 2)/(root), 3)/home and 4) SWAP.
Hi there!
I am attempting to dual boot Windows HPC Server 2008 on my existing Linux(Ubuntu) HPC machine. I know that Windows will wipe the MBR and I have the Ubuntu LiveCD to restore GRUB when that happens, but I am having some trouble with my disk partitions.
As of right now, when I boot into the Windows installation, it shows no disks available to install onto.
I am dual-booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04. I reduced my Windows 7 partition and increased my Ubuntu partition using gparted from a 12.04 live CD. Everything was fine for about a week.
So, I don't know what exactly how I managed to delete the MBR record on windows partition. But let me explain what I did next, I ran the ubuntu boot repair tool and now Windows is not even listed in my grub loader.
So I went and booted with windows cd and choose repair. Then I ran ubuntu boot repair again via live cd. Here is the log http://paste.ubuntu.com/1426181/. Still no luck.
Hi there,
Complete beginner with Linux here who recently dual-booted Windows 7 with Ubuntu on two hard drives (one solely for windows, one for Ubuntu).
My boot priority is set to
(1) HDD with windows
(2) HDD with Ubuntu & partitions.
