http://ubuntuforums.org – I have a small issue with my Ubuntu 9.10 Beta. Actually all function keys ('FN' +) work quite well out of the box. No problem with sound volume, background light etc. Even the function key to toggle the Wifi off works out of the box. I press it once and the wireless is deactivated. But I can not reactivate it by pressing the function key once more. In order to get Wifi to work again I have to restart the computer. Does anybody know the reason for this? Is there a script I can use to get Wifi working again without restarting Ubuntu? With the original Xandros that was not an issue but in Ubuntu it never worked for me. With Ubuntu 9.04 I was even not able to switch Wifi off. Now I can switch it off but have trouble restarting it again. (Hardware)

i am not able to get my wifi working consistently in ubuntu. At times when wifi is switched on in windows and I switch to ubuntu, wifi networks are recognized. But if i try and turn on wifi in ubuntu, there is no change. I get the message that the wireless is disabled by the hardware switch and indeed I see no blue light to indicate that the wifi is on.

but only on Ubuntu.

I have a Compaq Presario set up as dual boot with Windows XP and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

VDSL modem is upstairs and by itself doesn't have much signal when I try to use the laptop downstairs so have added a Belkin N300 wireless router to provide a good signal in the sitting room.

Booting into XP the wifi works perfectly and the little blue wireless switch/light is nicely alight.

i have ubuntu 12.04. And my problem is that the wifi is disabled. It says that the wifi hardware is disabled and it does not switch on when i switch on the wifi . The control always shows that wifi is switched of. The same computer has windows too and my wifi works just fine in it.

I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my Dell Inspiron E1705 and everything works great except the wifi is not working. I am currently using a wifi usb that is allowing me to use the internet.

Still looking around for some help through other threads, but not necessarily confident with any of them.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

when i restart my Dell inspiron 5010 it do not detects the wifi drivers and the hotkey for turning the wifi card on is not working either. I am using proprietary drivers "Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA Wireless driver source from bcmwl-kernel-source (proprietary)". I need to click and apply "Do not Use the device" and then switch back to the proprietary driver.

I've got 10 Ubuntu computers without built-in wifi to set up in a place with wifi, but no wired internet. I need some way to get this wifi signal to these computers.

Ok I have this old laptop and I installed ubuntu 11.10 on it. I got the wifi card to work for about a week. Then I took this laptop to work and i turned the wireless off with the button on the top of the ksyboard. So then when i turn it on again at home my wifi card does not work when i press the hardware switch and my laptop tells me that wireless is disabled by hardware switch.

Hi, yesterday i installed ubuntu 10.10 desktop edition on my HP DM4-1006TU laptop everything working fine except the wifi.

i'm able to switch off/on my wifi as LED goes red and white but no network found under wireless network.

where as on windows 7 wifi working smoothly.

please help

I've a problem with wifi in my Desire S and actually I don't know if it's software or hardware related. The problem: Wifi switch is On, but no network scans at all, sometimes networks appear, but just for two, three seconds, and then no networks again.
