[ubuntu] why nomdeset solution runs in low resolution

http://ubuntuforums.org – Installing 12.04 as dual boot on HP Pavilion dv4 with integrated intel graphic card, ran into the black screen. Tried nomodeset option and was able to bring the screen backup. I am also able to make it permanent by editing the grub. The only problem is that it appears to be running on 640x480 resolution. I need it to run 1366x768 the windows partition is running. I've tried everything in both the graphic card threads. I even tried 12.10 nightly release with 3.5 kernel. Nothing is working. Any help is appreciated. (Hardware)

Help!!! My computer will not boot 12.04. I get a dialog saying "running in Low graphic resolution and asks me to reconfigure the graphic card I have tried to boot in recovery mode and tried the advice of other forum treads to no avail. I enable networking but am not sure if I am on the internet as when I try a get-apt command it always says "unable to connect".

I've been playing with ubuntu for just a few days and so far i really like it. but i am having a few problems more specifically my screen resolution. I'm running

11.04 (natty) kernel linux 2.6.38-14-generic GNOME 2.32.1

on a Dell dimension 2400 with my on bord graphic card

Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01).

I have installed ubuntu 12.04 in dual mode with windows 7. The screen goes black after the initial boot.

I have tried editing grub in the initial boot by typing i915.modeset=0 and it works, but how can I do it permanently? I am using HP G62 laptop with intel HD graphics.

Hi Everyone. Total noob here. Looking for help with ubuntu 12.04 running on Acer Aspire 5734z. The OS doesn't seem to be able to run the graphics card (Intel GMA 4500M) as every time I boot ubuntu I need to do a GRUB nomodeset or else I'll get a black screen. (found that out through the forums thanks :) but the system doesn't find any needed drivers...

Using 12.04 (64bit) and Acer Aspire TG 3820. After waking up, I see a black screen, and then it turns off, then again the black screen, and then again turn-off.

I think the problem is my graphic card (I have two: - AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5400 and - Intel HD).

I have three operating systems on my machine, windows 7x64 and Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04 both x64 as well. All three were running at full resolution for my monitor, as well as in the grub 1.99 boot screen. After booting into windows I rebooted my machine and found my grub resolution was suddenly 640x480. Booting into both versions of ubuntu I find myself stuck at that resolution as well.

after installing ubuntu 12.04 i had the problem that i had a black screen directly after rebooting. So i used the grub option "nomodeset" to get an screen. I installed the recommended flgrx drivers and disabled the nomodeset option. Still can't use my graphics card. Also the option "xforcevesa" does not solve my problem.

I would need 3D enabled because i need blender to work.

I am using xubuntu 10 installed. I have intel graphics card with capacity of screen resolution upto 1366x768 The resolution i am getting is 1024x768

I have tried to sort out /etc/x11/xorg.conf, but this file is not in the x11 folder. Is there a problem with patching of kernel with KMS or what is the solution?

I have a computer with an intel card and I am trying to play StarCraft.

The only resolution I have is 1280x800 and I can't get it into 640x480 in order to make the game full screen. Any Ideas?
