Laptop with fresh Ubuntu 12.04 installation may get white or black screen upon log in. The default purple background appears for a bit, but then entire screen turns white or black while mouse is movable. It may or may not give a message says that need restricted drivers.

I'm using ubuntu 12.04 LTS .
The screen lock doesn't work , whenever I click on lock screen my screen freezes and turns to white , but the mouse keep moving, the same thing occurs when I click suspend .
It is set to lock screen on suspend .
so how can I fix this problem.

Getting a screen full of white and black pixels when trying to resume operation on a laptop.
Suspend operation in one of two ways:
1) simply close the cover
2) select "suspend" from the menu
By resuming, I mean to try to turn on the laptop again.
I get a bunch of "failed" messages re. channel 1, channel 2, etc.
I recently got a new computer, an Acer Aspire V3-551, and so far it has been running relatively smoothly with Ubuntu. The only major problems I have encountered is that when the laptop suspends, I cannot resume my work. Instead, I get a white and black blinking screen, and I have to manually shut down the computer before I can use it again.
Hi, recently my notebook have an issue. The monitor suddenly goes to pure white, and I cannot stop it. Sometimes it recovers after some tens of seconds, sometimes not. Today it even eats up my BIOS screen (the nice Toshiba logo).
Hi, I would like to run Ubuntu just from the CD but that doesn't seem to work. I have a HP Computer with Windows 7 currently, I have downloaded and burned Ubuntu on a CD and rebooted. Startup loads the ubuntu GNU GRUB system, but it is different than what it was on my old computer.
I have a Dell Latitude D830, running Ubuntu 9.04. It used to suspend and hibernate fine, without any issues, but all of a sudden (I'm not sure when) it stopped waking up from both suspend and hibernate. When I "power" the computer back on, all I get (after the initial Dell screen) is a white flashing cursor in the top left corner of my screen.
I recently installed UNR 9.10 on my fiancees samsung nc10 and she loves it, however there have been a couple of problems. Sometimes it will randomly goto a black screen and display a message about restart the cups server, but then it locks up and has to be restarted. There is no printer configured on her computer.
Since switching to Karmic, suspend and hibernate are not working consistently on my Toshiba Satellite. I have it set to hibernate when I close the lid, but doing so only turns off the screen. The suspend and hibernate keys on my keyboard also no longer work. When I select these options from the menu, the computer will suspend or hibernate properly.
