http://ubuntuforums.org – lately my ubuntu 11.10 has benn acting weird, last week everything was fine, then i tried to install sims 3 (i bought the game) using playonlinux. since then my computer will not shut down unless i hold the power button, it basically just get stuck at the purple ubuntu screen, then i have to hold down the power button to shut it off completely, also i am downloading oblivion using transmission. and it will only download for like 10 mins then it does like as if my internet connection is not there anymore and i cannot do anything, like i cannot disconnect for my network, i cannot open settings.. (Hardware)

hey all

I've been on Ubuntu for a couple months now, and love it. I have a few minor issues though. -when told to "shut down" ubuntu cannot turn my computer off. Randomly it will do a full power down, but more often then not it will shut down the os and halt at a blank screen, and I have to hold the power button down to fully power down.

i got a new htc hero after my old one broke, and this one was fine for awhile but now it wont turn off when i hold the power button down. it just turns off the screen no matter how long i hold it. i tried deleting any apps that could be a problem but still nothing. the only way to turn it off is to take the battery out and put it back in, but it turns on with the power button. help?

I'm on Ubuntu 12.04, and I'm a beginner (it might be important to underline this). Everything was fine till I install the latest drivers for NVIDIA. When I restarted my computer, I cannot access to my session as usual. Different things can happen:

It starts under Ubuntu GNU GRUB with Linux 3.2.0-26-generic-pae, and it looks like a terminal, I can login and all.

I recently put together a new server running Ubuntu Server 11.10 and it's all working great except for one little detail. Whenever I run "sudo reboot" everything works fine until I get to the grub page, where it auto-selects ubuntu and then only displays a black screen. There is nothing showing on the screen, and I can't access the server with a keyboard.

Hi, I'm using ubuntu 12.04 and Ijust got the error in the title. I waited through it and it eventually brought me to my log in screen, I had shut the screen, and the brightness was low and my cursor was extremely slow. I did a hard reset by holding the power button because I couldn't get to the onscreen shut down.

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04, and my laptop* won't wake from sleep/suspend/hibernate. (Is sleep the same thing as suspend?) I'm not even sure which of these things it's doing. When I am done working for the day, I lock my screen (Control-Alt-L).

I just installed 12.04 on my desktop (Lenovo Thinkcentre) and everything was going fine until I installed Google music manager...

It uploads music for a little while and then stops and I can't connect to the internet anymore but the icon in the top right says I'm still connected.

When I try to reboot it hangs on the ubuntu splash screen and gives an error:
