This brief tutorial will show you how to remotely turn on Ubuntu machine from another within same network.
On target Ubuntu machine:
1. reboot and go into BIOS settings.
2. In BIOS, enable Wake on Lan(WOL) or Wake On PCI(E). Then save and boot Ubuntu.
3. In Ubuntu, open terminal from the dash or press Ctrl+Alt+T, install ethtool
sudo apt-get install ethtool
4. run this command, eth?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who had a problem with mouse control on upgrade to Karmic, since the option (present in Jaunty) to disable the trackpad on laptops is completely absent from Karmic, and 100% of laptop users I know hate their trackpads, which were designed by Satan.
When I was running Ubuntu hardy my local network would stay up for as long as I kept the desktop machine running. Admittedly that was a different computer although it had the same wireless card.
Now under Karmic at some undetermined time the network disappears. Unless I reboot the problem persists.
I just upgraded my HP Compaq nc6220 from Jaunty to Karmic. Jaunty was sweet, no issues at all. Under Karmic, I have the Intel cpu hog bug plus restart just hangs the machine after dropping out of Xorg.I've seen a lot of gripes about the Intel Xorg bug but no solutions - can this be sorted or do I go back to Jaunty?
BTW long-time Linux user, Ubuntu since 6.04.
Does anyone know much about suspend / resume and how to fix/troubleshoot problems with it?
If you have a look at my bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/438470
Hi guys
I'm trying to setup WOL on my Ubuntu server, but i'm having a few problems.
I installed ethtool and set my Wake-on to g with this
sudo ethtool -s eth0 wol g
Here is my settings
Supports wake-on: pumbg
Wake-on: g
Here is my problem. If i shutdown my computer it reboots immediately.
There seems to be an incompatibility between Karmic's current printing setup (18/10/2009), and ver. 8.4 of the Kyocera PPD (certainly for the FS-C5xxxdn family).
My FS-C5100dn is no longer automatically detected on the network, as it was under Jaunty, but that is easily overcome.
Hello all
I installed karmic koala beta a few months ago (erasing my jaunty version in the process but not my home partition!) and my printer
continued to work flawlessly!(I suppose it took the jaunty settings and applied them to the new system, like my old modem details etc...).
The Ubuntu developers are moving quickly to bring you the latest and greatest software the Open Source Community has to offer. This is the Ubuntu 9.10 beta release, which brings a host of exciting new features.
Note: This is a beta release. Do not install it on production machines. The final stable version will be released on October 29th, 2009.
