[ubuntu] VSFTPD behind modem and router

http://ubuntuforums.org – I currently have the following setup: I have a cable modem that has a router hooked up directly to it and then all devices go through that router. My Ubuntu Server is also behind that router. When i go to use FTP through filezilla, i can't connect using my external IP address. Below are the logs from both filezilla and vsftpd as well as my vsftpd.conf file. Any insight as to what is going wrong or how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. I have my modem set to treat my router as the DMZ and i have ports 20, 21, and 50000-51000 forwarded from my router to my ubuntu box for FTP. I (Hardware)

So the setup looks like this:

There is a main WLAN-router/modem which is connected to the internet and serves the lower floor with WLAN. Now upstairs I have a second WLAN-router/modem (I will call it router two from now on). A normal ethernet cable is plugged in in router two in one of the four ethernet ports and also in one of the four ethernet ports in router one.

I have been tackling this for days and I cannot get vsftpd to work for all users connected outside my network. Some users reported to connect fine, others cannot. They would be connected to my host but it times out after 15 seconds. This time out error suggest that my port ranges has not been set. It is, however.

I currently have an Airport Extreme connected directly to my cable modem but have been wondering if I should actually connect direct to my proxy server first. The reason I am asking is because I run multiple web servers for web hosting and I have a proxy server setup that directs traffic to the appropriate computer based on domain names.

We have a small office network with DSL and a Netgear WNR-2000 wireless router acting as a DHCP server. There are nine devices connected to the router, wirelessly and wired. Whenever a Mac computer tries to connect, it's unsuccessful until we restart the router.

Ubuntu 10.10 connects to a DSL modem without any problems - I mean I just plugged it in and it worked - GREAT

I bought a wireless router so I could connect my netbook and now my Ubuntu machine which is simply using a cable from the wireless router now DOES NOT connect.

I just bought a TRENDNET TDM C4000 (=modem/ wiredrouter) and got it working. If I connect my computer with through the ethernet port directly, the internet will work. However, when I try connecting the ends of the ethernet cable on the modem and my wireless router, it's not transmitting. I know I set up the wireless router correctly because it worked with my previous modem.

Home Net Topology

ISP/WAN > Modem > Router (linksys) >Router(CISCO 851W) > (serial cable) 2008 R2

I have the loopback cable connected from my server to the CISCO router. The router is connected to the router in the office with a crossover cable. It is connected to Lan port 4 (Linksys) and the cable is plugged in to the WAN port(CISCO).

I have such network layout: internet comes true fiber optics to modem. From modem LAN cable goes to router. Since that router wifi signal is weak LAN cable goes to another router from which I connect true wifi.

TL;DR - Modem > router > router with wifi > me.

Browser connects just fine.
