[ubuntu] VNC to internal computer w/ "vncviewer -via"?

http://ubuntuforums.org – I'm trying to VNC into a computer that does not broadcast it's ip address. I can ssh into it though, for example, by first ssh'ing into a computer that does broadcast it's ip address. Someone told me the following would work: Code: vncviewer -via user@externalhost internalhost but I get: Code: channel 3: open failed: connect failed: No route to host vncviewer: VNC server closed connection Googling has not helped. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks. (HowTos)

I connect to one of my work computers by VNC using the following

Code: vncviewer -via username@server_ip 127.0.0.1:xx -geometry 1300x800 I use this practically everyday to connect to our server and it ALWAYS worked fine with my F17 installation which has tigervnc 1.1

Now, I tried the same thing in my F18 installation and all I get is

Code: $ vncviewer -via username@server_ip 12

I have a headless Ubuntu 10.04 system with a shared desktop.

Creating .desktop file 40 weeks 3 days ago

I have tried to create a .desktop file to run vncviewer (tight vnc connecting to a mac). I have entered below into the file.

[Desktop Entry] Version=x.y Name=VNCViewer Comment=This is my comment Exec=/usr/bin/vncviewer 10.0.1.5:5900 Terminal=true

When I double click the file it returns "There was an error launching the application."

Any suggestions what I have done wrong in my .desktop file?

I have an issue with my vino-server. When i connect to the remote screen in fullscreen mode, everything works fine.

But if i press mouse "Right Click" it closes the connection displaying as:

with xtightvncviewer:

xtightvncviewer: vino-server closed

with vncviewer:

vncvierwer: connection reset by peer

Do any one know how to get rid of this error.

I have setup x11vnc on my xubunut 12.04 laptop. The vncviewer on the other machine always displays whichever workspace that is currently active on my laptop. Question: Is it possible to set things up so the vncviewer is fixed to one workspace? (it can be a fixed workspace, say workspace #1).

For example, I have a computer with a Network Inteface Card (NIC) which is an Ethernet card that is connected by Ethernet cables to a router. There is also another computer with a cable that is connected in another port of the router. This is a Belkin router operating over an Ethernet in the LAN.
