http://ubuntuforums.org – I've been "playing around" with ubuntu server in a XEN VPS, exploring a number of different technologies and getting them working. I now need to move towards a production system yet still have the facility to explore new applications. My good intentions about recording everything I did on the prototype system fell victim to the reality of rapid changes to config files as I went through problem solving to get things to work. I need to get a clean install and add in all the tools in a more controlled way, but I also want to be able to try new things then migrate them to the produ (Hardware)

I have been looking at using openSUSE 11.2 64 bit on a system that runs a small database containing live data, database development, web development with eclipse, php, java, apache server, samba server for a couple of other machines, photo editing and some other things.This can almost certainly be done on Windows and probably also a Mac.

Let me first say that I'm relatively new to Ubuntu, I can make my way around with the Terminal and I now how most things work. However when it comes to more complex things and dependencies I'm lost.

I'll provide you with the following information before I start explaining what I've done so far.

I've been having problems with my system (well they are problems that shouldn't be happening imo).

Whenever I try to record my desktop with Desktop effects enabled using gtk-recordmydesktop i get little to no performance aka it completely lags. The only way to work around this is to disable all desktop effects which is not what I want.

We're using Ubuntu 12.10 as our development OS for a Java web app and plan to use the same OS in production. We're interested in knowing the bare essentials to prepare the OS for production use; in other words, what are the minimum things we should do before going live in production to ensure that we don't subject the server to any security or other malicious exploits?

Apparently for the SPH-M950 or the majority of the Galaxy line running ICS there are some things necessary to root in order to free up storage and clean up odex files. Even with root and App2SD utilities I cant move apps to ext sd without Directory Bind, or clean up certain installation files without Lucky Patcher. Both apps I couldnt install, because of the "Insufficient Storage" bug.

I've got a dual xeon e5504 server, with [for now] only 8GB of ram. Storage is'n impressive either: 3x 146GB sas in raid5 + 500GB sata drives.

I'm from Romania, and I'm new to your community. Normally I do not write into forums because any thing can be found on the internet but I'm a little stuck with a problem.

In the network I work, there is a proxy server (10.1.1.1) used to access the internet.

I' trying to setup an Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS install to host a number of KVM virtual machines to do web development.
