I am trying to set up a kiosk-type system using nodm, but half the time I boot the system, X fails to load.
In Jaunty my display settings accurately gave me resolutions above 1024x768 - higher refresh rates up to 85 Hz
(1024x768@85 - lesser refresh rates for higher resolutions)
Having searched the forums & tried to create & modify the xorg.conf file (in Karmic beta),
I could not create any higher resolutions or refresh rates.
I have a rather old video card installed. It is the nVidia Vanta/Vanta LT
/sbin/lspci -nn | grep 'VGA\|NV'
Here's the problem:
The Xubuntu (12.04) running on my laptop (Thinkpad T430) crash randomly, when it crashes, nothing works, Ctrl + Alt + F1~F6 fails too. I have to cut the power and reboot. I think it might be some problems with X server, but I'm not sure.

Hello. I ran the uname command and it tells me my kernel is "2.6.31-16-generic"
But when I run Update Manager, a linux kernel shows up that appears to be 2.6.31.17.30
But when I click on the check-box, nothing happens (I can't highlight it for installation).
My question is, Do I have the latest kernel with 2.6.31-16?

Hi Everybody,
Please HELP!
I have a problem with installation of ATI radeon driver.
After installation i'm running "sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx", the configuration failed and at the end of /var/log/SaX.log I have:
(II) LoadModule: "fglrx"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules//drivers/fglrx_drv.so
I put in a new ati radeon 5800 into my pc. I uninstalled xorg-x11-drv-nouveau which was used by my old video card. I installed the catalyst drivers that are needed via yum. When I boot up my pc, I'm no longer taken to kdm, but to a blank screen. This is my xorg log
