I'm getting terrible internet speeds on my computer running Ubuntu 14.04 with a Broadcom BCM4318 wireless card. I have 20 mb/s internet and when I run a speed test, I'm not even getting 1 mb/s. I run Speedtest from my phone while I'm at my desk and get close to 20 mb/s. I have similar results from a Windows laptop and a Windows PC, both just under 20 mb/s.
I have a problem with laptop fan, which is verry annoying in silent room. On Ubuntu 9.04 amd64 first the fan starts quiet, but after a few minutes it gets higher speed and keeps that speed, even if the computer doesn't need it.
On Windows XP OS the fan sometimes start's going faster, but then it slow down again, on Ubuntu - never.
Hi , i notices slow download speed after installing ubuntu 14.04 i even tried the previous version but i still have the same problem because of my wifi device

I recently purchased an iRiver P7 media player which I am using with Rhythmbox under Ubuntu 9.04. The transfer speed when uploading files to the player is phenomenally slow - the first 50 or so MB reported virtually instantly then the speed immediately drops to about 12-15KB/sec yes KB/sec so a 3-400MB video file takes hours to transfer to the player.
Hey great community, I need your help with understanding why my internet speed (especially the download speed) is so slow on my Ubuntu machine. check this speed differences between my Windows and Ubuntu machines:
I'm not able to receive a download speed of more than 56 KB/s using Ubuntu Release 12.04 (precise) 32-bit, Kernel Linux 3.2.0-41-generic-pae with the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 interface on a Dell XPS L502X laptop.
Hi I'm visiting my daughter who recently had a fibre network/ router installed. It's working fine for window users including myself with my dual booting laptop. The problem is that when I try to use ubuntu it is very slow or won't open pages. Some times it is quicker than others. On one occasion I managed to open a speed test page which told me the laptop speed was 18 mb/s.
