[ubuntu] Variable ethernet speeds generally very slow

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi Transferring files between 2 ubuntu boxes starts moderately fast but slows to a crawl. Machines: Ubuntu 9.10 AthlonX2 5800+ 4GB RAM SATA 3Gb/s 1Gbps nVidia Corporation MCP77 Ethernet wired, RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g wireless to AthlonX2 4800+ 4GB RAM SATA 3Gb/s Realtek 1Gbps (2 interfaces, can't remember chipsets off hand). Over the wire (direct link): starts ~20-40MB/s for several GB then slows to 400 kB/s for several hours then may pick up again to ~20MB/s then fluctuates but stays low for long periods. Wireless from first box to Buffalo openWRT router then wired to box B: follows a similar pattern to above but starts ~1.5 MB/s and drops to 40 kB/s. I think the hardware is up to it as acceptable speeds are reached but strangely, regardless of interfaces, with/without router, for long periods, it crawls at 40 or 400 kB/s (wireless, wired respectively) Coincidence that there's a x10 difference? I'd like sustained speeds at 20+MB/s over gigabit LAN and 1.5++ MB/s over wireless (should this be higher anyway?). But I'm stumped as to what is throttling it. Suggestions very welcome. Since I replaced Windows 7 with Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS (3.2.0-38-generic x86_64) my wireless speeds have decreased dramatically. However, the wired connection works just fine. I thought that maybe my laptop or the wireless card was at fault, but when I use it at work it works fine (I get up to 10 Mb/s down, which is the max)...

I just bought a TRENDNET TDM C4000 (=modem/ wiredrouter) and got it working. If I connect my computer with through the ethernet port directly, the internet will work. However, when I try connecting the ends of the ethernet cable on the modem and my wireless router, it's not transmitting. I know I set up the wireless router correctly because it worked with my previous modem.

Running Ubuntu 11.10. Wireless speeds are about 50-75% of what they usually are. Verified speeds on Windows 7 partition, so wireless card and router are both working properly. Any fix??

I've been trying desperately to network my Acer Revo 3600 with ubuntu Karmic Koala to network my my mac.

Wireless works absolutely fine, i've set up smb & afp shares and both work. But I need the wired connection to work as transferring large files, or streaming HD content over wireless is incredibly slow.

I am using my MSI wind U100 running Ubuntu 10.4 netbook remix, I have 2 networks, One of them always works and one barley ever works, The first one (That always works)Called Aaron's Computer, This router is in the room in which ubuntu was installed, And the first network ever connected to.

Hello Arch Forums. I have been experiencing some recent slow wireless problems. When I first start up the internet works fun but after just a few searches it seems the connection slows to a crawl and then fails entirely.

HP DV6000 Wireless G Broadcom

Netgear WNDR3400 router properly configured.

Windows laptops using wireless G and N are considerably faster than mine.

12.04 LTS, all restricted drivers and all up to date.

50Mbps wired and 9-21 Mbps wireless on Ubuntu.

I have internet access through 3G/4G USB dongle direct into my Ubuntu 10.04 box. Works great! Now I would like to share this connection out through my Netgear WGR614 wireless (and wired) router. Any clues?
