[ubuntu] User account can't fathom passwords

http://ubuntuforums.org – I'm struggling to get to grips with passwords. I've reinstalled twice to try to sort it but still have problems. I've learnt not to try to get rid of passwords. The current problem is that when I created an additional account (a standard one) it didn't ask me to create a password, so I didn't. I clicked to log on automatically. This works fine: when I switch the laptop on it goes automatically to that standard account. The trouble is when I then go to my admin account, and back again to the standard account, it asks for a password. I've tried 'none' and my admin password, etc but doesn't work. (Hardware)

I have windows Vista on my HP laptop. The user administrator and standard accounts have always acted wierd.

I am using ubuntu11.10 64 bit version . while checking the user account i have changed my admin user as an standard user. As aresult there is no more admin user. and here the problem begins . whereever authentication is needed it is asking for admin password .

Disabled a standard user account but did not opt to delete files. Later, tried to enable the account. At that time, a password had to be selected so entered a different one from the earlier one. Now, at the log-in screen the user account appears but cannot log in using the new password or the old password. Tried many tricks but still could not let the user log into the account.

Can anyone help me configure my AIM account? I have Oneiric and I want to set up my AIM account with what I believe is a chat client (the envelope icon on the top right). It is called Empathy. \n I tried to do this using Broadcast Account. It let me choose what account (Jabber, Pidgin, Aim, etc...).

I have a standard account with no password, then in the terminal it aksed for my password to install a program, I tried just ENTER and the adminstrators password but none worked, then I tried to create a password but I can't cause it says that the current password is wrong, but I haven't made a password yet! what's going on? Any ideas?

When I start up Ubuntu 12.10 I see the login screen. I have my account and a guest account as the choices. When I choose my account by clicking on it, I automatically get logged in with out being required to enter my password.

I want to password protect my account so when someone clicks my account, they have to enter the proper password to get in.

I used the 'useradd' command to create a new account, but I did so without specifying the password. Now, when the user tries to log in, it asks him for a password. If I didn't set it up initially, how do I set the password now?

I have made a service that has the capability to reset, changes passwords, unlock a locked out account, and read AD profile values (e.g. sn, firstname etc) of some domain user after the user verifies himself through phone. On the target domain server, there exists a privileged account who is capable of doing these tasks.

I want to run CB 9.04.01 from a live CD, and automatically configure my system at startup via a script I have written.Here is my problem. The live CD automatically logs in with the user 'crunchbang', which, by default, is a sudo user with no password.
