I switched back to Windows 7 for a while after installing and using Ubuntu 12.04 on a regular basis. I decided to reinstall Ubuntu using a flash drive I had used for it last time.
The flash drive I am using is a Verbatim 16GB, with a 2GB FAT16 partition I made to use install Ubuntu.
The problem occurred when I installed Ubuntu alongside Win7.
I have dell inspiron, previously i have install ubuntu 11.10 on my win7 and make it dual boot. but since i want to upgrade my ubuntu version and change the partion spacing, i have delete 11.10 partion directly and extend my hardrive space(windows + ubuntu) at that moment everything is fine. then i have put 12.04 version pendrive in usb boot from usb and install the 12.04 32 bit .
The move from Win7 to Ubuntu 12.04 has been honestly awesome. But I've come into a snag because my Win7 inevitably broke.
I can still boot into Ubuntu even though Win7 is broken (won't boot, can't repair).
I followed the instructions for the Ubuntu windows installer on my Sony Vaio laptop (model SVT131A11M). Upon restart I was prompt to choose the OS for boot (Win7 or Ubuntu), but then I shut down the machine and from the next boot, every time I choose to boot into Ubuntu, the GNU GRUB terminal appears with a grub> prompt.
Now I'm able to boot into Win7, but can't boot into Ubuntu properly.
Hi so im kinda new to Ubuntu. i have just bought a new computer a dell insprion 5721 and i have been having some troubles cause of win8. This was probaly the wort thing i have ever messed around with. so i want to install windows 7 and have ubuntu as a dual-boot. right now i have ubuntu installed and etc.
My computer does not have a working CD rom drive, so I had booted from USB (used UNetbootin to make the USB) to install Ubuntu initially. I had Ubuntu working on my laptop (Gateway 7330gz), started messing around with it, and decided I wanted to start fresh again.
Hi,
I decided to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my Win7 desktop PC. I have 2 internal hard drives (120GB the first and 1TB the second one). My Win7 was installed in one partition on 1TB and I wanted to put Ubuntu in other hdd. I did it (partition /swap, /home and the root), Ubuntu worked fine but Win7 didn't boot.
I'm desperately trying to install Ubuntu on my Win7 machine, without success.
I tried to:
- install a boot partition on Ubuntu on C:\, where Windows lives, and "/" (root) in my other hard drive, which is big and nice.
- the boot partition is primary and EXT2.
Steps to disaster
Installed Ubuntu 11.04
Partitioned drive upon install and gave Ubuntu entire disk.
Several months later I need WIN7 as dual boot
What happens at present
Booting into WIN7 via F9 option at boot .. takes me to Ubuntu.
