Hello...
I had ubuntu 11.04 installed on another complete hard drive thats not even connected with my main hard drive. see I Just unhooked my Windows vista hard drive. and put another drive to run ubuntu.
I am currently running elementary OS (a Linux OS based on Ubuntu so everything in Ubuntu works in it) - dual booting it with Windows 8.
I have a 3TB external hard drive (USB 3.0) that does not seem to be recognized when I plug it in.
It works fine under Windows (both 7 and 8).
It is using a GPT partition table and is formatted as NTFS.
When I plug it in, the light flashes on the drive but it do

Trouble finding a hard drive to install Ubuntu 12.04 on.
As you can see, the 3.74 GB drive is the only one that is showing up. It seems that this is the USB that I am running Ubuntu from, and not an actual drive from the computer. Same thing happens when I try to install Ubuntu. The USB (with no free space) is the only drive that shows up.
Have Ubuntu installed on a 1TB SATA 3 Hard Drive. Also have Windows 7 installed on a separate 1TB SATA 3 Hard Drive. Unplugged Windows Hard Drive before installing Ubuntu as previous versions of Linux always destroyed my Windows installation. What will happen when I plug in the Hard Drive with Windows 7?
Hi,
Firstly, please excuse the naivety of my post but I am finding this whole thing a bit confusing!
My old laptop has died on me (Windows had a major seizure) - the hard drive is okay but the CD drive no longer works. I have taken out the hard drive and reformatted it.
I've been trying to help a friend reinstall Windows XP after she decided she wasn't ready for Ubuntu, but when I boot her Lenovo T61p from the Windows XP install disk, it complains that there is no hard drive. But the hard drive is fine, and will still boot Ubuntu.
I have two hard drives. One is for Windows and the files I have accumulated over time. The other hard drive is an empty hard drive that I want to use to install and use Ubuntu on. I have the Ubuntu 12.04 ISO disc and I booted with that disc. How do I install Ubuntu on the second hard drive (disk1 in Windows (disk0 is Windows and disk1 is empty), sdb in Ubuntu)?
