Norton Ghost is a powerful software for computer backup and recovery. Currently, Norton Ghost reach version 14 that offers more stability and features. The backup feature on this application is very useful. I use NG 14 to backup my Windows XP server and clients.

So I'm new with ubuntu and so far I just love it :) I am now thinking how to perform full system backup, so that all my system settings, all my programs and packages and everything I've tweaked so far (desktop environment, window manager, etc.) is recoverable.
I could use deja dup or any other backup origram to backup the /home folder.
Having successfully backed up two laptops, I turned to the main system and installed Deja Dup on that, and proceeded to backup my home folder( excluding various folders).
As I now wish to upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10, and then to 12.04 (following the route I took with the laptops) I want to save the backup folder to an 8G memory stick bought for the purpose.
Problem - the "Properties"
I have the folder "Backup yzT Jan-01-2013". I've made also a script for do a backup everyday.
The problem I'm facing is how to rename the folder day by day according to date? Get the new name is easy, it's just
"/home/yzT/Backup yzT `date '+%b-%d-%Y'`"
However how can I select the folder "Backup yzT Jan-01-2013" exactly? Because every day it will be different.
Hello, I'm pretty new to Linux and I've settled with Fedora over the last few months. Now that I've determined my distro, I'd like to get everything backed-up. I decided I like Spideroak over several others.
I would like to fully backup my systems so that upon a new install, I'd be able to get my settings back for programs and services.
I've recently installed an openbox version of cb-a2 and noticed one problem. Once I've installed crossover office and restored my backup-archive for microsoft office (only word and excel there) there are not open with menus. However I did the "set-file types" inside COO, no files in home/.local/share/applications/ where created to support "open with".
Hi,
I am more familiar with windows so far. There I regularly use Ghost to backup my OS partition.
Is there anything similar on the Linux side?
I have used "dd", but this does not offer to search the file and restore dedicated files I probably have lost.
I can use "tar", but it is not on a partition-level.
I have openSuSe 11. (3.5) installed on one Hard Drive and open SuSE 11.2 (KDE 4) installed on another I am trying to migrate all my user data over to the new install.
