Hi,
After a new installation of 12.10 on a Lenovo x120e and a restart the Unity shell won't launch.
Installation of 12.10 amd64 yesterday went well. I turned the computer off for the night and when I turned it on this morning I was presented with the login screen. When I enter the password the screen flashes black and returns to the login screen.
I have asked this elsewhere and gotten absolutely nowhere.
Yesterday while at the login screen for 11.10 I stupidly chose "Recovery Console" from the little gear menu. What happened after that is that a small terminal window opened in the top left of my screen. At this point the keyboard would not enter anything.
I hit CTRL-ALT-F1 and got to a login prompt.
Hi, I'm getting very frequent crashes with Ubuntu 12.04. These come in three flavours.
Unity stops functioning correctly (e.g. applications disappear from alt-tab, or application icons disappear from the menubar). I can often recover with "$ unity --replace". This occurs about twice a day.
I see a black screen but still have a mouse cursor.
When I boot Ubuntu, I enter my pass but then I see a blank screen and then I'm thrown back into the login screen. I am able to only access the guest account. I am using 11.10 (unity). Also, during my few hours running Ubuntu, it would occasionally crash and throw me back to the login screen, only now I cant login back anymore.
Hi all!
I'd like to remove unity, gnome and all that, and just keep xfce4 (already installed).
Even better, it'd be wonderful to have my computer boot into a login shell and let me run startx if and when I want a graphical session.
Now I tried with some things along the lines of "apt-get remove unity ubuntu-desktop gnome-session" but it turns out it's too naive a method.
Hello everyone.
I hope you can help me with this one, problem because of my own mistakes.
based on the title above...I did something to the unity .
I try to install/upgrade to unity 5.0 from here http://techhamlet.com/2012/01/unity-5-on-ubuntu-11-10/
after all installation completed,
I restarted my laptop.
and when I want to login,
there is no "Ubuntu" anymore.
There is only
My problem: As you can guess my Ubuntu 12.10 stucks in a login loop when trying to enter my desktop. Means the screen gets black and soon after that the login screen comes back.
Thats all.
I want to boot my Ubuntu like everyday but replacing Lightdm with Console login (i think getty)
In Grub cofniguration file write "text" in the right place to get into tty1 when boot.
This will make lightdm not show.
Then we can run
Code:
xinit -- :1
and
Code:
unity --replace
or
startx
Everything I have tried to reach Unity takes it but slowed down so much, u
I'm having problems with the update to 12.04.2 (x64).
I ran the updates and rebooted the machine. It started backup in TTY1 (I've had this happen before no biggy) so I hit Ctrl+Alt+F7 and got nothing. So I logged in, typed startx and it somewhat worked. I got my mouse and my desktop background and nothing after that.
