Hi, can someone help me install a dual boot for windows 7 and ubuntu. I've installed Win7 and I've installed ubuntu and made a /boot, /home, /root, and swap partitions. The /boot is a primary partition and the rest is logical. I set the device boot loader to /boot and when I restart I get a error grub rescue message.
am i supposed to set the device boot loader to /dev/sda or sda3?
I have dell inspiron, previously i have install ubuntu 11.10 on my win7 and make it dual boot. but since i want to upgrade my ubuntu version and change the partion spacing, i have delete 11.10 partion directly and extend my hardrive space(windows + ubuntu) at that moment everything is fine. then i have put 12.04 version pendrive in usb boot from usb and install the 12.04 32 bit .
After already having a dual boot (win7 and Ubuntu) I wanted to add Mint. During installation from flash, the install had an error while configuring the HDD partition and apparently deleted a partition and GRUB. I downloaded "repair-boot" and let it run. Now GRUB doesn't even show. The comp boots only into win7. No GRUB at all.
So I resized the partition next to the one where I have ubuntu installed. Using Easeus Partition Master I made it smaller so there was unallocated space between it and the Ubuntu partition with the intention of using it to install programs. When Partition Master tried to reboot all that happened was a black screen appeared with the message ''Grub error, unknown file system...
So, im completely new to ubuntu and I just wanted to try it out. So i set up a dual boot with windows 7 and ubuntu, and ubuntu works fine. Yet, when i try to boot windows 7, it gives me the error "unknown filesystem" with grub rescue under that.
So I have 2 hard drives a HDD 320GB and a SSD 20GB. Before I had Windows 7 on the HDD and Ubuntu on the SSD but wanted to get rid of windows and reinstall a clean Ubuntu on the SSD then use the HDD for storage.
So I deleted everything from the HDD and set up the SSD with 18GB ext4 and 2GB Swap and installed Ubuntu on the 18GB ext4.
Hi,
I have a dual boot computer (Ubuntu 11.10 or 11.04 / Win7). Everything was working fine until yesterday when it froze while I was under Win7, after that I can't boot the computer anymore and it keeps restarting. The restart occurs right before the when the grub should start (I can't see the grub at all).
I've tried to boot from Ubuntu live CD, but that doesn't also work.
Hi all,
I'm new to Ubuntu and I've installed Ubuntu desktop 12.10 in my Satellite L300D, alongside with Win7.
While the Ubuntu installation seems to be just fine, I can't boot Win7.
When I choose the "Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda2)" it changes to a black screen for 1 second and then it returns to GRUB.
I've tried the Boot Repair solution but it didn't work.
I tried to delete old ubuntu on dual-boot via win7 to get more win space (partition had non-ajacent NTFS free disk partitions and woldn't allow me to move in either gparted or win) and reinstalled ubuntu with alongside windows selected. I left about 1/2 NTFS and 1/2 ext3 before reinstalling ubuntu.
