I've recently bought a new PC, installed Ubuntu and am now unable to get 5.1 digital sound working.
I''m running Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit on my laptop with an external Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro sound card plugged in via USB.
If I have output selected to stereo output then everything plays fine in stereo. However if I select surround 5.1 output then a fast clicking sound emits from all speakers, both when playing or sound or not.
I am working on setting up an HTPC running Ubuntu 12.10. I have been searching for hours for a solution to get 5.1 surround sound working through HDMI, to no avail. I do not know a lot about audio standards or how they are managed in Linux.
I have centos 6.3 running on this pc. the built in sound card is detected normally and is a 7.1 card with all speakers listed. It includes a optical out as well as hdmi for the built in video. It looks like pulse audio is automagicly miss configuring the optical out as it is listed as sterio digital out.
I am very new to Ubuntu and linux as I have used windows only until yesterday. I am attempting to send my audio signal to my pioneer reciever using a single digital optical cable which is plugged into my M2N Sli Deluxe motherboard. I am sending video with a Geforce 8600gt video card through HDMI. That card does not support audio through HDMI.
I bought an Asus Xonar U1 external soundcard when I was running Windows Vista.
I installed UBuntu a couple of months ago and sound "works" - meaning that I hear music when I'm supposed to hear it.
However, the sound is disappointingly thin compared to what I was getting with Vista.
In my sound settings interface, there are two devices for sound output:
Both refer to the same physical device, which is a network sound device.
Both work, but only with the second one, Simultaneous output to Kenwook Audio Device Digital Stereo (IEC958) on mythbuntu@mythbuntu, does the output volume respond to being changed.
Hi all:
I use an external USB device for my audio. It converts to digital optical, which I then feed into my mini-disk player. Ubuntu recognizes it automatically and it works very well. However, on my new HP laptop, there is a light clicking sound over the top of the sound output. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this? For instance, if I change the sample rate, will it help?
When I boot Ubuntu 12.04 from a USB drive, I am unable to get sound to output through my TV speakers while having my machine connected via HDMI cable. Using Windows 7, the sound switches from the computer speakers to the TV speakers without a problem.
I have a Nvidia Geforce 310M.
