I have a SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip mp3 player. When I plug it in to the USB port, I get the following:
$ dmesg
...
usb 1-3: new high-speed USB device number 11 using ehci_hcd
hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 3
The Sansa does not show up in lsusb, or in fdisk.
I believe it is not a problem with the cable or the player, as a test-run on a Mac worked fine.
I am trying to get a new external USB drive working on a system. The drive works under windows, and other drives work on this linux box, so I suspect there may be a compatibility issue with that particular drive.
The problem existed under 11.1, I just did a fresh install of 11.2 but get the same issue.
I've recently moved to Fedora from Ubuntu and I'm using Fedora 11 with KDE 4.3. I have external USB Hard disk drive with 2 ntfs partition of 200 GB each. I'm using HP Pavilion dv8000 laptop having AMD Turion 1.8 GHz Processor and 1 GB RAM.
I plug a USB hard drive into my machine while Windows Vista is running and am able to access it just fine. I insert an Ubuntu LiveCD, reboot, and find myself unable to access it at all.
Here's what dmesg says when I start Ubuntu up with the drive already plugged in:
Code:
[ 75.064017] hub 1-0:1.0: Cannot enable port 5. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
I have Ubuntu 11.10.
I recently tried to install fglrx-updates video driver but system hanged during installation, so I ended up with the system which will not boot up.
I tried to load to recovery mode, but when Recovery Menu (limited read-only menu) loads something happens and I got messages over the menu saying:
[ 3.079107] usb 2-1.2: new low speed USB device number 4 using ehci_hcd
[ 3.15
I am quite interested in usage USB host ability on my china no-name tablet based on Allwinner A13 CPU. I'd like to use it as GUI front-end for my embedded project with STM32F4 ARM microcotroller. So far I use laptop as the GUI for this device. STM32F4 is connected via USB as a vendor-specified device.

I have just installed a fresh version of Ubuntu 10.10 on my Gateway laptop. Everything is going okay, but I'm stumped on my USB ports... They don't seem to be working.
According to DMESG, its detected...
I read a lot of things here about mounting external HD. Only one post from 2004 was close so it wouldn't hurt to ask again...
