So I have an old Toshiba Satellite laptop from 1999-2000 that I ran a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 on. Everything seems to run fine from the Live CD, and the install process went without a hitch. However, after rebooting after the install, I get the error message:
NTLDR is missing
Press any key to restart
I tried the boot-repair-disk LiveCD, and had no luck there.
Hi guys/gals,
I have installed ubuntu before on my laptop (hp envy m6) before no problem. I currently have a CLEAN (i think) install of windows 8 (meh) on it. I am trying to now keep my Windows 8 install on the internal drive, and USB boot off of a 500GB toshiba external USB drive. I have the Fedora 18 disk in the DVD drive.
Hello,
i really hope this question hasn't been asked, i looked around and couldn't find the same problem. if so, please direct me to the thread that talks about it.
I have a toshiba satellite with windows 8 installed on it.
My laptop hard disk got crashed. But until I replace I want to do my home works. So I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on 16GB Kingston DT101 G2 pen drive.
My question is, using my pen drive as my regular disk for 1 or 2 weeks is that OK ? Will I get any problems in my pen drive? After I replace my hard disk can I use that pen drive as normal ( just assume I will use my laptop at least 12 hours per day).

Hello, I had a dell amd turion laptop running ubuntu 10.04. I run windows xp via virtualbox.
I switched over to a toshiba intel core duo laptop and put ubuntu 10.04 on it. I am not able to get my virtualbox windows xp install to load all the way.
I am running ubuntu 11 on my home desktop, which was dual booted with Windows 7, and all was working great.
Today, I was trying to install Ubuntu 12 to an external USB hard drive. I put in my Ubuntu 12 disk, restarted, went through the install process setting up partitions on the external drive, etc etc. I am now having the hanging problem on the purple screen.
I have a Toshiba c855d-s5307 laptop. I redid a windows 8 installation and left 25GB free space to install 12.10 x64. secure boot is turned off and when I boot from the DVD I get the proper install/boot live options. But when I pick either one the disk spins for about 5 minutes then the screen shuts off and nothing happens until i restart.
I am posting my question here since I have a wubi-installation of Ubuntu.
My system is setup like this:
80 GB hard disk with Windows XP on C:/, with Ubuntu 10.04 as a WUBI install, 2 other partitions just for data.(So very less data on C:/). Everything was perfect for more than a year.
