Am trying to boot from a usb stick.
I am looking at this:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/create-a-usb-stick-on-ubuntu
I need to create a boot disk to test Ubuntu to make sure it will run on a PC (Compaq Mini CQ10-120LA) I was given. I can create the boot disk off of a Mac (in English) or Windows (but Windows is in Spanish and foreign to me).
Questions:
1) What format do I choose for the USB stick?
I have tried to boot from a USB drive using three different programs, LinuxLive USB creator, Universal USB creator, and UNetBootin. I am using a Dell Latitude E5410 running Windows 7 and am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04.
Each time I select boot from USB device, I get to a menu with options to try Ubuntu without installing, boot into Ubuntu, and install on Hard Disk.
Hello. My wife has just bought a Samsung NC110P, and after a few months of windows, she is very tired of it and wishes to install Ubuntu as a dual boot. However since the netbook lacks a DVD drive, I have created a USB installation stick. If I boot the computer with the stick inserted, it ignores it and boots windows.
Ok. For those whose reading comprehension is a little slow.... I created a boot stick with Ubuntu 12.04 to boot a machine where Windows 7 tanked in order to back up files. Boot stick doesn't work, telling me it is missing a kernel. Am using 64-bit desktop version. Have already tried re-doing the boot stick process, using installer, and that didn't help.
Ok so this is pretty odd. I have an old machine, AMD, 3GB of ram. I can load windows onto the disk fine, it formats the drive, then when it goes to restart to boot from the disk, i get a bluescreen(related to video drivers) and i i take out a stick of ram, any stick, it will boot up fine and finish the install.
Hello all...I'm actually shocked I've never came here to the forums before now.
I was messing around with my Windoz machine delete sys files in an effort to install a partition with Ubuntu on it. Unfortunately I wasn't paying attention and I highlighted the partition I wanted but didn't choose from the drop down list and wiped my entire disk...lol.
I am trying to boot an Ubuntu iso from an USB stick.
My BIOS is from American Megatrends (1985-2005).
There are three boot devices mentioned:
1=CD/DVD, 2=hard drive, 3=realtek boot agent.
At each number I can use one of these 3 options or disabled.
No other options are mentioned.
Also mentioned is Boot from other device, this is set to yes, the other option is no.
How can I boot from USB?
