I am new to Ubuntu 12.04. I started using it after my computer motherboard had a problem. I am running it off external usb drive.
Worked great for 2 months. I thought I am going to move over permanently to linux from windows.
For the last week- nothing but problems.
The computer keeps freezing up- lot of times after the computergoes to sleep.
I'm running Ubuntu for a long time now on this box without any major problems.
But a few days ago after installing updates and restarting the computer (Lenovo ThinkPad X200) the middle mouse button doesn't let me scroll anymore.
Running precise 12.04 KDE desktop
Love firefox. Always worked like dream, 3 months now. No new upgrades, software, settings/preferences. Nothing.
This morning whole computer suddenly running massively slow, ran top and found nothing running the CPU at more than 1 percent, but system monitor reported the load at 80%. Rebooted. Everything SEEMED fixed.
I have a netbook that was running XP. It caught a virus. I uses DOD Twister to zap the hard drive and I also destroyed the Master Boot Record and reinstalled it for XP. The virus came back so it must have something in the bios. Because of this I switched to Ubuntu. I thought that Ubuntu would prevent viruses from reading my credit card number etc. I used DASH to get CHROME.
Hey, first time here. I've been using Ubuntu for a couple of years now and but I'm having some major problems with a recent update. Earlier this week there was a major update, about 100 mb's worth. After the update. Google Chrome would not launch.
I usually use chrome and Firefox for browsing. I also open many tabs (around 40 in both some times).
The problem I have occurs when I resume the PC after having suspended it: It takes from 2 to 5 minutes sometimes to just get back normally.
Does this have to do with memory usage not properly resuming? Is it a bug in Chrome/Firefox or Ubuntu itself?
I'm not sure whether this is a widespread issue, or just my computer, but almost every time i close firefox, and try to restart it, I get the "firefox is not responding in another window" error message.
I've always had this problem, but it's become more prevalent ever since I upgraded to 12.10.
Is there a workaround?
I'm using the Awesome Window Manager together with Gnome in Linux Mint. I experience the following problem several times a day:
Suddenly the mouse partially stops working, which means that I'm still able to move the cursor, but any mouse clicks won't do anything. Moreover, the cursor doesn't change when it should, e.g.
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit on a custom built machine that's about 5 years old. (2nd gen Pentium quad core, 8 GB RAM, Gigabyte P65 mobo, nVidia Geforce 8600 GTS.)
I did the Wubi install, dual boot with Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Both Firefox and Chrome slow down after a few minutes of usual...
