Sh here is what happen. I had 10.4 running great, had to install Windows for something that couldn't be done through through virtual machine. So, I booted with a Ubuntu Live CD, and used gparted to make a partition for Windows. I just unmounted my HDD and made a 50GB portion for Windows. I turned off my machine and Ubuntu booted up just fine with all my files intact.
I'm trying to figure out how to allocate ~80% of disk space to Ubuntu 12.10 and ~20% to Windows but after installation, it seems like I only have ~177 GB volume on both Ubuntu and Windows when my HDD is 1TB...GParted shows multiple partitions (3 nfts though I understand one is on the SSD?) with one of them being very large but inaccessible and protected(key symbol)?
I am trying o install Ubuntu on m gfs Dell Inspiron, using GParted iso cd. I created 3 partitions but have issues how to log out/ exit. cannot highlight
gparted, edit, file, decide manager..........I have tried usin the tab
, space bar, enter, etc....any kind of assistance would be appreciated. thanks
I wanted to install Ubuntu 12.4 LTS beside my Windows 7. So I put the CD and booted my PC, everything was easy, but I wanted to give Ubuntu 200GB and instead I gave it more than a terabyte. Now, my Windows 7 has just 288GB free space. Also Linux-swap has 12GiB which i think is too much. It should be 3GB.
I'm not quite sure how to partition my dual-boot Windows Vista and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
I've gotten the part of the hard drive I want allocated to Ubuntu, but don't know how to partition my Ubuntu install.
I can't find any threads to help.
So I've attached a screenshot of my gparted screen.
Thanks

Gparted Live, a small bootable GNU/Linux distribution for x86-based computers that can be used for creating, reorganizing, and deleting disk partitions with the help of tools that allow managing filesystems, is now at version 0.16.1-1.Gparted Live 0.16.1-1 can be installed on CD, USB, PXE server, and Hard Disk, then run on an x86 machine.Highlights of Gparted Live 0.16.1-1:• Another cras
I have an asus k55VM.
The problem is that once done the partitions to install windows 7 finalize you and then ubuntu 12.10 the grub not to appear.
System specs: Acer Aspire 5738Z, Ubuntu 11.10 with GParted. 320GB hard-drive. (GParted is confused, the total of all partitions is 426GB, but the manufacturer's sticker clearly says "320GB HDD".)
I had allocated 10GB to Ubuntu during the installation a year and a bit ago. I thought that I could have a copy of any file on my windows partition, so I wouldn't need it on the Ubuntu one.
i have been trying to create NTSF partitions inside ubuntu to install my windows 7 ultimate edition back but GParted dont work or at least dont let me do anything on this version of ubuntu ( 12.04 LTS 32 bits ) and i dont want to wipe the drive to install windows back and then install ubuntu in dual boot because is the same im trying to do but doing it is a longer process
