If I'm working on Windows 7 and close the laptop, it logs me out, and when I open it again I can log back in. However, if I close the laptop with Ubuntu running, the screen goes black and it freezes, why?
I am running the latest version of Ubuntu.
Update
Problem solved, i got the answer from ubuntu forums, I had to go to the power settings and choose "do nothing" when the lid is closed
I am using Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on an Asus Eee PC. In the Power Settings I have set Ubuntu to "Do Nothing" when the laptop lid is closed. However, when I do close the laptop lid Ubuntu goes into screensaver mode, resets my keyboard layout setting, and requires my password to get back into Ubuntu.
I want to be able to open a Libre Office, close the lid, and type.
I am using Ubuntu 12.10 in my MSI-6837D laptop, when I close the lid my system goes to suspension/hibernation and I cannot bring it back.
I just want it to do nothing if I close the lid. I think something is wrong, because as you can see in the image below, I already selected the settings to do nothing when I close the lid, but is not working.
Any idea how can I fix this?
Hello,
The title of the thread is likely a bit vague so I'll try to explain this as clearly as possible. Here is what I expect to happen:
Boot laptop > Use laptop > Close lid > Open lid > Enter password > Continue using laptop.
However, what is happening is I open the lid and get the desktop wallpaper, but nothing else.
It has been two years since I posted for a problem with suspension for my hp compaq 6720s laptop: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1592875
Since then, the laptop was not capable of suspending on close lid, no matter what ubuntu release I used, It suspended ok when I order it from menu or from command line but no on closing lid.
Two days ago, I think since I received security updates
Is there a way to have KDEWallet close when I lock my laptop? Usually I have the wallet set to close when the last program using it exits, but I tend to leave Chromium open so it holds the wallet open as well. I'd like to be able to force the wallet closed when I lock my laptop (or maybe even close the lid). Is there a way to do this?
I have two drivers on my laptop, Windows 7 (came with laptop) and Ubuntu 12.04 (installed long after purchase of laptop). When i turn the computer on and choose Ubuntu when prompted, I get to the log in/welcome screen and everything freezes, so I have to shut down the computer, restart it, and log onto Windows, and restart it from there.
Hey all.
I really need need some help so here's my problem:
I'm just a student who received my laptop from my uncle, who's a coder, so I'm still getting used to working with ubuntu. I recently upgraded ubuntu from an earlier version, and everything seems to be pretty great. The only thing is that when I open a program, or file, or whatever, it takes up the whole screen. I can only close it by going to the far top left of my screen, or by ctrl+W.
