Hi
I now seem to have got Ubuntu working from an external drive on my Samsung laptop with Windows 8 pre-installed.
I boot into Ubuntu two ways:
a) Plug in the external drive and press the F10 key directly after pressing the power button, I then press the Ubuntu option and press enter, for some reason this way does not work all the time with my screen going black after selecting Ubuntu in the grub
I installed fedora 15 on an external hard drive attached to my Windows laptop and in doing so accidentally created a boot manager the external drive. The laptop in question has windows on it which I can access via the dual boot menu that sits on the external hard drive.
Hi guys,
So I was looking into how to install Windows 7 from an external USB hard drive. I found a few different programs that allow you to do this by extracting the Windows 7 image file to the external hard drive in such a way that when you boot the computer up, it will boot from the external hard drive and bring you to the Windows 7 installation process.
I have a lenovo ideapad u350 with external USB DVD drive and HDD (Samsung) (I do not want to overwrite the internal hard drive which has wondows 7)
While booting from the DVD drive with OpenSuse 11.2, the booting is erratic. Once in a while it just hangs (especially if I reboot from windows without powering off the laptop)
I have finally installed ubuntu on my second drive i change my d drive to took 8gb for swap and formated d disc(sda4 to ext4), now when i start computer in grub is shows me only ubuntu and windows 7 is not shown.
Hello, as a Christmas present for my mum I decided to give her my old laptop. Without thinking about having Grub and other Linux stuff on it I went into the Windows Recovery menu on my ACER ASPIRE ONE D150 NETBOOK WITH WINDOWS XP and allowed it to format my computer back to factory settings. It was not done from a disk, but by a partition as it doesn't have a CD drive.
I had two Operating System in my laptop.Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7.
last day i reinstalled my Windows 7 in same partition c.
also i config a prtition for Ubuntu with swap & / & /boot area.
after reinstalling Windows 7 OS i cant see Ubuntu grub for startup this OS and i go directly to windows 7 .
how i can install grub for going to ubuntu???????
help me please...
thanks a lot.
I'm new to ubuntu so please forgive any stupid mistakes.
I'm trying to install ubuntu 11.10 to a 500 GB external usb hard drive, to dual boot with windows 7 (windows has already 4 primary partitions so that's the reason for the external drive).
Hi all
I bought a samsung SE-208 external dvd player for my netbook, which I have on Ubuntu.
I can't get the dvd to work. It only claims to run on Windows and Mac, but then so do most things and they have always worked fine on Linux.
I've used my dual boot and it loads and works fine in Windows 7.
Can anyone advise how I might be able to get it running?
