AMD has released a range of quad-core, 8-core, 12-core and 16-core processors featuring its second-generation 'Piledriver' modular core architecture which are designed as a drop-in replacement for 'Bulldozer' Opteron parts.
I experienced core dumps (Illegal Instruction) on 2 new Opteron 2-way 6274 systems while using XEN 4.1.2.
I could make following observations in different configurations:
2x Opteron 6274: Ubuntu Precise w/o XEN = WORKING
2x Opteron 6274: Ubuntu Precise + XEN 4.1.2 = NOT working
2x Opteron 6274: Ubuntu Oneiric + XEN 4.1.1 = WORKING
2x Opteron 6274: Fedora 16 + XEN 4.1.2 + Kernel 3.1 = WORK
So I've been looking but not found any real cheap 6/8 core Opteron 4200 series processors. Going into a build I'm starting and am looking to see if anyone knows where to source them on the cheap. Would love to go to 4300 series but the mobo doesn''t support them
I have numerous dual Opteron 248's, single core, running in 64-bit mode with CentOS 6.x. I would like to purchases some of the many chips on eBay that are Opteron 275's, dual core, that are said by the manual to be part of the 200 series although the voltages are higher. My goal is a faster server with more memory. The 275's can handle DDR400.
