So I've been having some graphics problems, and recently I installed these packages:

But after installing those and restarting my computer, I cannot get Ubuntu to load--it freezes on the purple screen.
using ubuntu 10.04. I was trying to resolve a problem with nvidia card drivers and the last thing I did was to uninstall and reinstall x-server. Now when I login, I don't get the graphical interface but instead I get a full screen command prompt mode. I can't seem to get out of it. How do I get the normal ubuntu mode back?
I updated my drivers using the additional drivers tab

Hi,
I installed the proprietary nvidia driver through the hardware drivers GUI, now my c840 Dell laptop screen won't boot up. It just remains blanc. I want to restore the driver to the default open-source one which worked.
OK so I just got Ubuntu the other month or so. I'm running the 11.04 version currently and trying to install drivers for a Nvidia graphics card (it's my brother's computer and he currently cannot find the number of the card right now). I read that, to install the proper drivers for gaming, I would need to go into "Additional Drivers" and choose them myself.
I did a clean install of 12.04 on one of my hard drives. It worked okay and started adding programs and configuring it and one of the things I did was to add an nvidia ppa to get the latest drivers.
I upgraded all packages with sudo apt-get upgrade command on my Ubuntu 10.04 box and I have Ubuntu 12.04 3.2.0-29-generic-pae now. I have two monitors and the following GPU:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [NVS 300] (rev a2)
After upgrading to 12.04, I somehow lost my previous setup with one common workspace stretched across two monitors.
I recently did an update through yum which updated my kernel to 3.5.5-2, after doing so I also tried to install nvidia proprietary drivers and ran the command:
nvidia-xconfig
I then went on to reboot and found out I could no longer do so.
After trying to troubleshoot the problem and failing to find a solution I then tried to revert to my intel hd 4000 graphics card so I uninstalled the pr
