I just recently purchased a toshiba L840d, and it comes with the Realtek 8723. I installed the driver from http://askubuntu.com/questions/13963...not-recognized and that works with unsecured networks but where there is wep or wpa security it will not connect.
Ok, I wrote in my other thread, I'm new to Ubuntu. I'll change to it, but now I've got a test enviroment (with 12.10) on my notebook. So I can test it, and there's no problem if I make a mistake.
2 days ago after a reboot I got the message "The system is running in low-graphics mode" error... And I couldn't do anything.
The CPU beep is a really irritating thing in Linux distros and sometimes the graphical sound manager does not work when shutting it up.
Fortunately there is a simple way to do it in terminal. In Ubuntu (and distros based upon it) type:
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

I have installed karmic on my inspiron E1505. Everything is working fine except the wireless connectivity.
I have been following the below thread for getting wireless to work. I am stuck at step -3 (compiling - DISWRAPPER) .

Namely that after installing Ubuntu 12.04 and going to log in, I am met with a frozen slate of a desktop in which nothing loads (at longest I've sat for 30 minutes, reading, whilst nothing changes) and only the mouse moves.
Its not a blank screen, its the desktop that one is normally greeted with, just with nothing loaded.

Tried the following solutions wich I think are for older versions of ubuntu with gtk2.0.
I'm having trouble getting my computer to recognise any bluetooth device, including my Wiimote and cell phone. I have a USB Bluetooth dongle that appears to be working. When I plug it in, I get the bluetooth symbol in my device tray.
