hello i am trying to change my password, but when i type in the new password i get this:
"The password is longer than 8 characters. On some systems, this can cause problems. You can truncate the password to 8 characters, or leave it as it is."
my question is what kind of problem could i get and how can i change so i have to log in every time i start the computer?
Hi,
after installing Ubuntu 11.10 from scratch.
i installed also GNOME 3.2.
i defined two users.
1. Administrator
2.
I tried removing my administrator account's password. Now that there is no password set for it, I cannot put a new one nor do any actions which needs administrator privileges.
I tried different fixes found on askubuntu, including resetting of password using recovery mode.

I have a standard account with no password, then in the terminal it aksed for my password to install a program, I tried just ENTER and the adminstrators password but none worked, then I tried to create a password but I can't cause it says that the current password is wrong, but I haven't made a password yet! what's going on? Any ideas?
The system recognizes the signal and asks me to input the network password, which matches; but when asked for the second password, the "nm connection editor", the password doesn't match. Isn't that password the same as the log on?
I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 on a new hard drive.
1) I set a password for myself as administrator and would like to change it, because it's too long, but I see no way to do so.
sudo (Which I have configured to ask for a password) is rejecting my password (as if I mis-typed it) I am absolutely not typing it incorrectly. I have changed the password temporarily to alphabetic characters only, and it looks fine in plaintext, in the same terminal.
