http://ubuntuforums.org – I got a new laptop (Asus K55A) and I am trying to dual boot ubuntu along with windows 7 (boots into UEFI mode and has GPT partition). I finished installation from a LiveCD. I was able to use ubuntu from LiveCD for most common applications, video/graphics/audio/wireless/touchpad all seemed to work fine. When I start my computer, I see the grub menu with ubuntu and windows option. I am able to start Windows7 from this grub menu (worked after doing boot-repair) but when I select ubuntu it goes into a purple blank screen and remains there until I turn off the power button. What can i do ne (Hardware)

Hello, I have succesfully installed Ubuntu 12.10 x64 in my new Asus laptop ( with Windows 8 preinstalled. After the boot I can't boot in Windows 8 and I run Boot Repair. Now I can boot in Windows 8 but there are many entries in my grub.

I have just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my Sony Vaio T. I first shrank my C: in Windows 8. Then installed Ubuntu and used the space to set up a Swap and the rest was my /. I ran Boot-Repair. ect ect.

So my problem is that the GRUB menu will come up and Windows won't start. It will go to the troubleshoot screen. Then I CAN start Windows through there.

So I installed Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit in a new partition alongside windows 7 in my laptop with a swap partition and whenever I boot I see the Grub boot screen where I can select windows or Ubuntu.

Now the trouble comes if I select to boot Ubuntu then the computer takes me to a purple screen and I hear the ubuntu drum noise, but there is no login screen and I can't access the terminal.

I am fairly new to Linux/Ubuntu and am in need of some help. I have dual booted Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.10 on 2 separate hard drives. After several attempts, I was only able to get it working by changing the BIOS hd boot option. I then found some threads on repairing the boot process by using Boot-Repair.

So I just recently built a new computer and I have Windows 8 running on it, bios is set to UEFI, and Secure Boot is off. Windows 8 runs perfectly on it. Well with the new version of Ubuntu out, I thought I would give it a try in a dual boot on my new system. I have a separate hard drive just for Ubuntu, however I can't even get an installer to load to let me install it!

Hi all, I have installed Ubuntu 12.10, dual booting with Windows 7 on my Lenovo x120e.

Everything was working fine until windows installed a series of updates. Now, I get grub when I turn on the computer, but if I select Ubuntu the screen turns black and nothing happens.

If I log in to Ubuntu using recovery mode, I can get to Ubuntu.

Yesterday I installed ubuntu 12.04.1.

Note : its a dual boot system along windows 7

At first grub was appearing and i was able to start ubuntu but then i had to switch to windows but windows was not booting when i select windows 7 it jumps back to grub window. So i fix the Windows Boot Loader using repair from windows media and wolla windows started to boot but Ubuntu Grub gone.

I've got an Acer Aspire 5750-6866 with 8gb of user upgraded memory. been running dual boot ubuntu and windows 7 for a while. the other day i start getting the hd0 out of disk error and a boot screen that is completely different than what i was getting before (purple boot screen).
