I've added 12.04 three times now.
Triple boot on an old desktop w/ Vista(which has serious issues), 10.04LTS, and 12.04LTS.
Dual boot along side 10.04.
And, on a new laptop with Windows 7, as dual boot.
The issue I have is that the swap for the 12.04 always shows as 'unknown'.
I discovered on the dual boot with 10.04, that if I delete the 'unknown' partition, or format it to swap (even though, on
I have Linux Mint 14 installed as my only OS. I have one extended partition containing /swap, / and /home, and I have some unallocated space on my drive.
I'm guessing that Mint decided to put this all on an extended partition instead of three primary partitions.
So I want to build Linux From Scratch using some of my unallocated space.
I've used the backup utility in Ubuntu to back up my 12.04LTS files. I'm thinking about giving 13.04 a shot but want to make sure I can simply restore and get the 12.04LTS back if things don't work out right.

Hi...I am a new to the world of ubuntu. I have a question about using RAID on Ubuntu. I want to make a file server. My friend suggested I shoud use Ubuntu Desktop and not the Ubuntu server. I have already installed Ubuntu and it works great. My question comes in configuring my hard drives.
I have three hard drives. One with 250GB where ubuntu is installed.
I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. My hard drives usually comes as: sda, with 'sudo blkid' and if I plug-in any USB drive, they comes as: sdb, sdc etc; after sda. That's fine!!!
But problem arises after I restart my laptop with connecting those USB drives. They alter and comes first and hard drive goes to the end, like: 'sudo blkid' shows, sda, sdb for USB drives and sdc for hard drives.
I was using MountManager in Ubuntu 12.04 to set user permissions in mounting hard drives. I set each partititon to be mountable by everyone instead of admin only. Then I clicked Apply in the file menu and it gave me the message successfully updated.
Upon restarting Ubuntu, just hangs on the splash screen and does not boot any further. Windows still boots fine.
How can I fix these?
Hi:
The HD is a 320GB size.
Hi
I am using ubuntu 10.10. I am having two hard disks 160Gb and 250Gb. My ubuntu is installed in 160Gb hard drive and 250 Gb I use only to store data.Yesterday I was changing partition type using disk utility and by mistake I selected "linux extended".
When I restarted my PC this morning, I am not able to view my 250Gb partition in places. In disk utility I can see it.
