[ubuntu] Trouble with Ubuntu on VMware

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hello everyone, I am a total VMware and Ubuntu noob, and I am stuck in a rather interesting mess. I downloaded the Ubuntu 12.04 iso for my VMware Player 3. Here's what I did:Made a virtual machine with no ISO file, selected Linux (Ubuntu) (to install VMware tools). VM starts up, as usual prompts me to download tools for ubuntu. VMware tools get downloaded and installed without hiccups. (NOTE;I was using IOBit's Game Booster 3 just to keep unnecessary services (vmware not affected) off while VMware was running) Once done, I delete the blank VM and make one with ubuntu iso. I am having trouble running VMware Workstation 9 on Ubuntu 12.10.

After successfully installing it, at run time, the following error appears:

The VMware Tools kernel modules could not be automatically rebuilt. Please manually run: vmware-config-tools.pl --modules-only To rebuild them.

In an attempt to fix this problem, I am getting the following extra errors:

sudo sh /usr/bin/vmware-config-too

I downloaded Fedora 16 at http://www.trendsigma.net/vmware/fedora16.html. I’m having a problem installing VMware tools. The note printed by VMware says “Make sure that you are logged in to the guest operating system. Mount the virtual CD drive in the guest, launch a Terminal, and use tar or rpm to uncompress the installer.

I just installed ubuntu 12.04 on vmware workstation 8.0.4. I am trying to install vmware tools, but I got stuck on this step:

The filesystem driver (vmhgfs module) is used only for the shared folder feature.

i installed vmware tools yesterday and it was working perfectly fine. the reason for that is i needed to share a specific folder from the host OS to the guest OS.

today, i was baffled that the shared folder cannot be found in /mnt/hgfs/ so i went out to check the config for the vmware shared folder - it was grayed out and asked me to install vmware tools.

I downloaded vmware player 4.04 and run into the problem of virtual network device fail.

After googling a bit, I found How do I install VMware Player 4.0.3? and applied as this answer suggest, which is the following:

1) I downloaded the tarball http://weltall.heliohost.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/vmware...

2) Change the plreqver=4.04

3) and run it.

I have ubuntu running as a guest in vmware player. I have installed the vmware tools, and everything was going smoothly. I was able to copy paste texts between host & guest. But yesterday I tried with lubuntu and played around a bit with display managers. But suddenly copy pasting texts between host and guest is not working. I have re-installed vmware tools.
