[ubuntu] Trouble installing on Sony Vaio pcg-r505jl

http://ubuntuforums.org – I am trying to repurpose my old Sony Vaio and am attempting to install the latest Ubuntu on it. I have run into a number of issues and have sneaked by them all so far, but am running into a snag now. I have the minimalist install on a CD. It boots successfully from that to the Installer Boot Menu. When I select "Install" or "Command Line Install" it hangs indefinitely until I restart the machine. I was able to launch the expert install, but haven't done one before. Any ideas? (Hardware)

I want to install xubuntu on my old Sony VAIO PCG-N505SN; I have tried both the Live Desktop and main install, but it always gets to a point where it says "Unable to find a medium containing a live file system"

I *believe* this may be because there are issues with the PCMCIA CD-ROM drive... The laptop boots from that drive OK.

I tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 from the Live CD alongside my current Windows 7. I have to switch my BIOS to legacy mode in order to boot from CD.

:confused: I got a problem when installing the ubuntu 10.04.3 on a laptop which is sony vaio sz55 the display card has been changed to Intel 965 moblie.

I am struggling with installation of Ubuntu on my new sony. I had a plan to make it dual boot with Windows 8. Unfortunately i had a number of problems with EFI (ubuntu live cd does not boot from EFI but usb live stick does), and after unsuccessful try of recovery system (software provided by sony) i decided to wipe out everything and install ubuntu from start from scratch.
