I just installed Ubuntu 11.10 on a friends Dell Inspiron laptop. I normally boots up to Windows Vista Home Edition. As part of the install procedure I reduced the size of the largest ntfs partition to allow space for an ext4 root partition and a small swap partition.
I am ready to install Ubuntu 11.10 on a Samsung NC110 netbook, but reading other posts leaves me with a few concerns.
Here is my current Partition table.

I installed ubuntu alongside with windows 7 but I am not getting the option for ubuntu in the windows boot loader.
I have a 320 gb hard disk:
C: drive - 40 gb windows has been installed on this
D and E drives - 250 gb used for data
F: drive - 15 gb firstly formatted as NTFS but used gparted to change the filesyste. This is the partition I used to install ubuntu.

Hello. My wife has just bought a Samsung NC110P, and after a few months of windows, she is very tired of it and wishes to install Ubuntu as a dual boot. However since the netbook lacks a DVD drive, I have created a USB installation stick. If I boot the computer with the stick inserted, it ignores it and boots windows.
