[ubuntu] Trouble With /etc/kismet/kismet.conf on Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 With Atheros AR928X.

http://ubuntuforums.org – I have Kismet installed on my HP Pavilion DV7 Notebook which is using an Atheros network card. In etc/kismet/kismet.conf I don't know what to enter in order to get the program up and running. I have set Code: suiduser=myusername but I don't know what to put for Code: source= I found out by browsing around forums and Google that my Atheros chipset was an AR928X by using the Code: lscpi | grep Network command. In a few forums they are saying to put Code: source=madwifi_g,ath0,madwifi , but when I type ifconfig I see wlan0 and nothing at all related to ath0. Trying this with sudo (HowTos)

I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 in my computer with an Atheros AR5007 wireless card.

I want to use Kismet but when I run it it starts displaying the message:

ERROR: Packet source 'wlan0' failed to set channel X: mac80211_setchannel()

It keeps displaying the same for every channel except channel 1.

I am trying to monitor wireless on Broadcom BCM43227, I used sudo airmon-ng to run the monitoring, i get command not found. I installed kismet, when i run, i get this

Kismet is a 802.11b wireless network sniffer.

Wireless network security flaws are well documented but often very hard for the common person to understand. I will be showing you how to use kismet with out even having to install Linux, or compile kismet.

I know it has been asked many times, but is there a Netstumbler type application that I can use that isn't kismet? I installed kismet and found out that my card apparently doesn't work because it can't be put in monitor mode (using ndiswrapper; I have a Belkin F5D8010 w/ Airgo chip).

Basically I need only the answer to above question. Please think of that I am new to linux.

I have the following problem. My friends notebook (Vista) has got a trojan and refuses to work anymore. The Avira Rescue CD did not help either. So I tried an old (9.1) Ubuntu CD and backed up all the essential files.

Can anyone help me, i have a AR928X wireless card and everything i have tried has failed

the default driver ath9k scans and connects to my router but cant connect to any site or ping anything , same with the madwifi driver

lspci prints
