[ubuntu] Third party app's internet access via a connection through authenticated proxy

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi , I have access to internet connection through an authenticated proxy server. I got APT to work with this by changing wgetrc and other files. Third party apps (such as thunderbird,empathy) that access the internet are not able to work with the network connection. Any pointers on how I can get them to work with authenticated proxy connection would be much appreciated. System configurations : Dell inspiron 15 R OS : Ubuntu 12.04 Connection type : Direct LAN connection through an authenticated proxy. Thanks, Pushkar Khadilkar (Hardware)

I'm posting this from behind my college's authenticated HTTP proxy network. I'm not sure what kind of proxy it is exactly, if there's a way to find out do let me know.

Now I'm having a lot of trouble getting some things like git clone, pip etc. working on this network.

i work on ubuntu 12.04 with a internet connection using proxy. Lately the proxy address changed, and now suddenly I cannot connect to internet whatsoever. Strangely, the same proxy adress does work on a windows machine. I know there is a bug concerning the system wide application of proxy settings, but that is not my problem. If i set the new proxy address in firefox it just does not connect.

As example, in Forefront TMG I can have a wpad entry in the DNS and computers discover it and auo oconfigure the web proxy, when the user try to go to the Internet he is prompet for the crendentials.

In iPhone or iPad it doesnt work. ¿Which is your recommedned way of implement an authenticated proxy that works for mobile devices?

How do I make a proxy server that allows other computers to access my internet connection through the proxy, but will not allow them to access my internet connection directly?

I have a server and a switch. I would also like to provide wifi access under the same conditions.

My work proxy server requires authentication with the Microsoft AD domain user credentials.

This time, i am going to solve some irritating things with my networking on school, using ubuntu 12.10. I am perfectly able to connect to the proxy authenticated network the school uses. But my problem is something else; I am not able to access for example gmail.com or any ssl secured log-in pages. And where i am able to, i am not able to see any of the layout (f.ex.

After Starting the system, first- time connection of internet works/access  the net-works(updating, browsing, etc.).but if, internet is disconnected, manually by me or automatically by any reason.

I have tor running in my ubuntu.

I want to make ubuntu like a proxy server but this proxy server must use tor proxy as source.

let me explain: A: tor proxy: 127.0.0.1:9050 (SOCKS5) B: ubuntu (route tor proxy to phone as a proxy server) C: my Phone (wants to use tor proxy)

I installed squid3 but it used direct internet.
