I've just converted a server from Fedora 14 to Ubuntu 12.04. "Converted" of course means a clean install.
I'm now trying to get all of the services back up and running and have some working pretty quickly, but I'm stymied on getting automount to mount work with a local directory.
After my recent system upgrade to linux-3.6.2-1, I ran into a couple noticeable issues on my laptop. The first was the inability to use "mount -i /home/user", which is in my .bash_profile, to mount my encrypted home directory at login. An error message would respond saying that eCryptfs does not support aes. I was able to manually mount it with "mount -t ecryptfs /
I have simple little home file server, currently running fedora 10 and long in need of being upgraded. So i built a new server using ubuntu 12.04 and it was fine until i tried to get nfs working.
uids and usernames dont match in my home so with fed 10 the way things worked was if i were on my desktop as "testuser" (uid 1000) and fed10 has a "testuser" (uid 500).
A couple of years go i moved into a new home, complete with a pile of "broken" computers in the garage.
So as the title says...I am a beginner with creating a FTP server.
I found a proftpd guide here on ubuntu forums and followed that guide to install proftpd and also configure the proftpd.conf file. I created a directory in /home/FTP-shared called "download" to put my files in there for access.
I can no longer make client connections (neither from home/ubuntu nor from localhost) to nxserver on . The gripe is "no subscription information found on server"" but the server.lic (chmod=400) and is clearly the perpetual free 2-user license. Authentication completes successfully.

Today I was tweaking a bit around with the settings, I wanted my home directory to be on another partition which I share with Windows, so I went to User/Groups in the menu panel, and set my home to /home/Sirupsen/disk, and in the folder disk I had mounted my "shared" partition.
Hi all,
I am trying to set up a print and file server for my home network using Ubuntu Server. The file server part of the task seems to working well. I can see the shared directories from my Macbook and my wife's Windows Laptop. I am stuck on the printer setup, though.
I have an HP Photosmart printer connected to the Ubuntu Server machine via USB cable.
