I know Ubuntu and most of the herd are now using lightdm, but Jeremy Bicha's Ubuntu GNOME Remix uses gdm.
During the most recent install I did not select auto-login.
I was playing around with "User accounts" and somehow set automatic login. Now, when I start my PC, it just has one button named as "login". Clicking that button, directly logs me in to my PC.
There is no music or no asking for password while logging in.
When you install Pear Linux 6, you will be asked to choose to use password when logging in or not.
When installing 11.2, I chose not to enable auto-login during the install process. I have now tried to enable it through the System Settings menu, but the changes do not take effect. I've checked and rechecked and restarted numerous times, but still auto-login will not enable. I've also tried changing the login splash screen, but upon reboot, nothing has changed.
Anyone have any ideas?
During installation of Lubuntu 12.04 I chose to enable auto login.
Now I cannot disable it. In user settings it says password: asked at login. The "don't ask for password" checkbox is not checked.
I'd like to achieve following:
no gnome-desktop
auto login a user and load .bashrc
auto startx and run my custom chromium
Now:
I'm able to start with text only, by adding "text" into /etc/default/grub
I'm able to login root, by editing /etc/init/tty1.conf (ref1)
but how to login as another user?
Heya guys,
I am wondering if there is a nice and easy way to get XBMC to auto-startup on login without kicking off the underlying window-manager (eg, gnome/KDE).
I can get the user XBMC auto-logging in using either KDM or GDM (the initial login managers), but I don't really want to have to wait for KDE/gnome to load before XBMC is kicked off.
Just wondering if there was a simple solution
When I start up Ubuntu 12.10 I see the login screen. I have my account and a guest account as the choices. When I choose my account by clicking on it, I automatically get logged in with out being required to enter my password.
I want to password protect my account so when someone clicks my account, they have to enter the proper password to get in.
Can someone tell me where the password policy control is?
There seems to be two places to change passwords:
from user>system settings>user accounts>click password field
and activities>applications>other>users and groups>user.properties
In the 'user accounts' option, the screen prompts with secure passwords - if the password is weak, it won't allow the password at all
