When Canonical started developing the Ubuntu Software Center, I knew that a time will come when it will completely replace Synaptic.
Ubuntu Software Center is so sl-o-o-o-o-w... Seriously, I can launch a virtual machine with some Windows apps faster than it takes Software Center to load!
I dislike Software Center so much I installed Synaptic ages ago, and that loads in 2 seconds! Perfect. Well almost - I can't seem to open downloaded .debs with it. Can I change things so that Synaptic opens .debs by default?

I'm trying to download master-pdf-editor package from official repositories. All sites report that it's easy to do: just download it from ubuntu software center.
I can't install the software center, so I'm trying to install it via apt-get or synaptic, but I can't find the package in the repos...
Can anyone help?
I am using Ubuntu 12.04.
Many time I have opened the Ubuntu Software Center and noticed that software long installed shows up as not installed. I have also noticed that some software to be downloaded have duplicate entries. I find this frustrating at times. Which do I download? I have used Synaptic when I had no clue. I know that it has nothing to do with updating the apt list.
i've been using ubuntu9.10 since 1 month.
But recently due to some error in installation of google desktop(package is partially installed),The package installer is giving the error that there is already a
program running in software center/synaptic package manager,so it cant install any package.
For Applications management, Linux Mint 13 has Software Manager by default. Synaptic Package Manager is also there, but most beginners prefer Software Manager (over the synaptic or command line utility).
In Ubuntu, beginners prefer - Ubuntu Software Center, it’s easy to use and it has a lot of exciting features.
