There is a Easy way to get steam for Linux Without beta access (No, Not using WINE)
From Terminal:
wget http://media.steampowered.com/client...ller/steam.deb
sudo dpkg -i steam.deb && sudo apt-get install -f
Then From Unity Dash Do:
Launch Steam App
Login to Steam
Lock To Launcher
You will get a message saying you arent in Beta close this.
Right Click Launcher Icon And
I had a nice working setup of Steam and some steam games (civ4 and team fortress 2 mainly), used them about a week ago.
Is there any way to move Steam and all of my Steam games to another hard drive without having to re-installing everything? I would prefer to keep Wine on the original drive, if possible. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and the most recent stable release of Wine.
So I downloaded steam on PlayOnLinux and I installed some random games and they open but I can't do anything with them I can move the mouse around and the menu buttons change, but I can't actually click anything. The games I tried it on were Castle Crashers, Deus Ex: HR, and Super Meat Boy and they all did the same thing.
The Beta version of Steam for Linux was announced last evening, November 6, by Valve, only for the Ubuntu operating system.
Linux users continued desire for pure Linux version of Steam, is now met with the official beta version of Steam for Linux. There is definite indication that the native Linux client for Steam games...

Hey guys, I'm fairly new here so bare with me. I'm also going to post this on the Wine boards but i figured I'd see if I could get a response out of Fedora folks first :)
So I've successfully got a stable Wine 1.5.8 running, which is happily running steam with no problems whatsoever.
Steam Beta Linux client will enter in closed beta testing this month. About 1,000 users will have access to Steam client and one Linux game.
Though a date for full public release is yet to be announced, Valve is already adding new Linux games to its database.
I'm not sure how to title the question so please excuse the title if I have entered a misleading title. First off, I recently bought Portal 1&2 in Steam. I was able to open Steam in Wine (don't know why but Steam for Linux is all messed up, everything looks off and says "Not avalivle in your country" or something.) no troubles at all.
