Is there any way to speed up X forwarding? I am using xming on windows and putty.
I've tried with and without compression it's really really slow & my upload is 10Mb
This is the first time I have setup an xforward to a Windows machine using xming. If I enter a remote command like /usr/bin/firefox in the SSH section of the putty configuration an xforwards firefox will start on windows.
If I simply have x forwarding enable attempt firefox &.
When you are running X applications over SSH, the encryption/decryption overhead of the SSH protocol may slow down the rendering of remotely running X applications. Furthermore, if an SSH session is established over a wide area network, X11 forwarding over SSH may become even slower due to network latency and throughput limitation.
As much as it pains me to ask this blasphemy, is there a more updated and recent WDM for Windows so I can use PuTTY and forward my X11 programs through SSH? I have Xming, but that was last updated in 2007, and of course its 2013, and some of my programs I am forwarding are not working properly. Especially when forwarding java programs.
I have Linux compute server A on which I would like to execute an application, say HV (I use this HV application to render a CAE model and capture the image). Eventhough I run this HV in batch mode, from putty terminal, it requires X windows. That is I need to run Xming and forward the display from server A, else it exits with error "No valid fonts - exiting".
