Hello everybody,
i just installed opensuse 11.3 (after being on Mint for couple of years) and really impressed with stability compared to latest Mint 9/Ubuntu10.04.
the only issue I have now is I can't turn on desktop effects neither in KDE nor in Gnome.
I'm currently running Ubuntu 10.10 on VMware.
My computer has a NVidia 8800GT graphics card.
I'm trying to activate the Desktop Effects but keep getting the following error message: "Desktop Effects could not be enabled"
I'm very new to Linux so I'm still in the extreme learning phase.
Could someone offer suggestions on how to get this to work?
My goal is to get Compiz to work.
my Xorg hangs when i login to my user in gnome-classic(or shell) with desktop effects.
But when i start gnome-classic without desktop effects i can log in fine to the system
I am a average user of ubuntu
(have tried arch too but it is too much work. though arch documentation is excellent)
though gnome-classic (with effects) used to start some while ago...
I have recentlu installed the ubuntu 12.04 via wubi inside windows on my laptop.
I get Standard graphics at start. But when I install the graphical driver through the additional driver it install the main driver but update installation failed.
Then I can't see my standard effects too.
I can't see a further way.
