[ubuntu] Sound lost occasonally on 9.10, Lenovo

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi! Installed 9.10 on my Lenovo 3000 ( V100 ) and I am having problem with the sound. Following the advice in this thread , Following the advice until. (2) Reinstall those same packages sudo apt-get install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils and then sudo apt-get install gdm ubuntu-desktop and then Saving Sound Settings sudo alsactl store 0Now I reboot, the sound is working. if I restart again, then all is lost. What am I missing here ? My file '/etc/modules' consists of the following two lines. lp snd-hda-intel Regards, i (Hardware)

Hi, So a few days ago my sound stopped working all together on my Ubuntu 9.04 system, and since then I did some tinkering with the drivers to try and get it going again. I attempted to install pulse audio to avail, and also tried installing alsa-driver-linuxant-1.0.20.3_all.deb To upgrade my asa drivers.

Okay first yes, another post about sound..... however I have spent the last day and a half researching the forums trying to find the solution on my own. Second I don't want to be spoon fed the answer, when I figure out what the problem is I want to at least try to understand what I am doing to fix it.

Here is another topic on no sound from the sound card. It was working fine in 11.2 but not now. This was a clean install of 11.3 not an upgrade, whilst leaving my home directory alone. This is no sound from system, Amarok, web browser.>:(

After so many many attempts to solve my audio problems when upgrading to Karmic, I finally found a working solution :p !

First, let me decribe what the problem was: 1) no audio card was detected at all => cat /proc/asound/cards returned an empty content => cat /proc/asound/devices did not include any audio devices

Laptop: Asus W7J

Audio device: ALC660

Sound worked great with 9.04.  Sound works great with #!

Just after I installed Karmic on my Zepto, the sound card showed up fine in the hardware tab of sound preferences.

But after a reboot, it wasn't there any more.

I can get sound working in boxee, via spdif some times. It seems really random if it works or not, when I reboot.

I have tried following some guides from archived threads, but to no avail.

I am having some problems getting sound to work over the HDMI interface on my laptop. I have tried going to System/Preferences/Sound to try and change the settings to HDMI but there are no HDMI options to choose from.
