Hi,
I am having some problems getting sound to work over the HDMI interface on my laptop. I have tried going to System/Preferences/Sound to try and change the settings to HDMI but there are no HDMI options to choose from. How do I find out if HDMI sound is supported by the nvidia drivers I am using? I had a look at this thread;
Sound problem, no HDMI output
Hi all,
Ubuntu 12.04 desktop 64bit
ASUS mobo M5A97R2.0
audio Realtek ALC887
I have been struggling more than a week unable solving the sound problem via HDMI output.
On sound setting
-> Output
HDMI/DisplayPort disappears on "Play sound through"
I have another HD on this PC running Fedora 17 desktop 64bit. There is no problem on sound output via HDMI.
I have an F17 machine with an Intel Ivy Bridge CPU w/embedded Intel HD4000 GPU.
When I plug my HDMI into a TV the video works great but I get no sound.
aplay -l
Code:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
...
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
Sound works except for when I use HDMI cable.
I only see Internal A
I just spent hours to configure the sound to work with HDMI.
My last problem is, when I start playing sound the TV screen goes on and off, like when you change the resolution. When I stop playing sound, 3-5 seconds after, the same thing happen.
I feel like everytime I play/stop the sound, the HDMI connection needs to be resetted.
I have a media centre with a ATI Radeon HD graphics card using Ubuntu desktop with all updates current which works fine for video and will also work perfectly for sound.
The problem is that it seems after the first time using the media centre to play something the next time I come back to use it the HDMI output device is missing within the sound devices list (it's always there and not being used
Hello, hopefully this hasn't been solved before. I did some searching and nothing really applied to my problem.
I have an Ubuntu-based HTPC connected to my TV via HDMI for both picture and sound. The PC is running PulseAudio and, to my knowledge, is configured properly.
The problem is that, if I turn the TV on and power/reboot the server, everything works.
I used one of the help guides for establishing hdmi sound here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2142636
and also installed pulseaudio volume control. I can see the hdmi sound which would come out of my tv speakers yet isn't. In PulseAudio, the sound bar pulses which shows sound activity. The picture is great. The sound is no longer sent out of the built in speakers. My TV is not muted.
This has been a recurring problem for me on kubuntu.
I connect my HP G62 laptop to an external HDTV via HDMI.
I am able to watch films (albeit with a cropped screen) but cannot get any sound.
If I go into sound settings, there are no devices listed for HDMI.
In the past I have had to install pulseaudio volume control to make it work but it seems ridiculous to me to have to go that route.

After looking at other questions (here and other sites) and trying their respective answers, I am still unable to get the hdmi audio out working.
