Hello I have very strange problem creating swraid on Debian Squeeze Linux. I started creating RAID1 from existing standard instalation of Debian on single drive.
So I bought new drive and started following this tutorial:
http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-set-up-software-raid1-on-a-running-syst...
Everything went fine, i created initial raid from new drive.
I have recently installed Debian 505 to replace 504 because one of its new features is "experimental support" for sata software raid1. I have also tried to set up raid 1 at the same time but I cannot find how to access the array.
I installed the OS on a PATA drive and used 2 new SATA drives for the raid1 array (intended for data).
I had a desktop's motherboard die on me, and now I'm attempting to recover the data from one of its two hard drives, which were being used in a RAID1 software RAID via mdadm. I bought a SIIG SATA3 to USB adapter, and attached it to my Ubuntu laptop, and although I hear the drive spin up, Ubuntu doesn't automount anything.
However, the Disk Utility shows it as a USB peripheral device.
After a restart which stalled, I did a hard reboot and now mdadm can't see the RAID 6 array anymore, LVM can't find the volume which was on that raid array.
The controller is an HP Smart Array E500 Controller and the disk array is an HP Smart Array MSA50.
I have the bios boot order set to have the internal RAID 1 array as the first boot choice, then the CD drive as second, then 'Removable Devices' as third. During boot, the screen shows the E500 getting initialized. If I don't have the MSA50 connected, the boot screen then says '0 Logical Drives.
I assembled a new machine on Asus P9X79 motherboard, using its RAID controller to create a RAID1 array of two 500Gb drives.
When booting Arch from an external drive I am able to work fine with /dev/md126 which corresponds to the array.
3 years ago a co-worker setup a software RAID-6 array on Ubuntu 9.04 and I'm getting messages from the OS that the drive has bad sectors and should be replaced.
I recently did the update from 12.04 to 12.10 on my old Dell Latitude CPx laptop (Pentium III). When I rebooted I got this error message with no response from keyboard input. Below it is says
Wait to continue, press S to skip mounting, or M for manual recovery.
I also see occasional errors pop up on the screen from mountall and Plymouth.
I can still get into Recovery Mode.
In my Ubuntu 12.04, the hibernation option was working well and fine. However, I installed Debian on another partition recently and when I again tried to boot to Ubuntu, I got a message on the boot splash screen saying :
The disk drive for / is not ready yet or not present.
