I just recently started using Ubuntu (12.04) since a few weeks ago and noticed that the interface is very slow and sluggish: On Dash, I have to type the entire app name and wait a few seconds before it shows up in the search box, and a bit later before it displays search result
Opening new files or applications takes also quite long and awkward
Dragging icons or moving app windows around is not
I have a Lenovo G580 (4GB DDR3, ~500 GB HDD, Intel i3). I installed Ubuntu using the in-Windows installer on my Windows 7.
I have an Nvidia card and because of all the problems with the normal driver in the repos, I installed the 302.17 driver from the Ubuntu-X ppa.
However, Unity 3D seems to be a bit slow:
The launcher takes a relatively long time to open (about a second or two)
Moving windows about increases CPU usage quite a bit.
I just noticed it this morning, attributed it to be a driver bug or some such, but I'm afraid this has more to do with a recent update than something else... All of a sudden, input in my F12 system is sluggish as hell...
I have been running 12.04 LTS (fresh install) for 4 months, upgrading from 10.04 LTS. I apply all updates when notified. The hardware is Intel i5 on a Gigabyte 1155 M/B with no additional graphics adapter. I do not use the Unity interface, only the latest gnome.
My keyboard and mouse are the Logitech S 510 combo that works fine in 10.04 LTS, on Mint, Centos/Red Hat and . . . . Windows.
Hi there,
I just recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 onto an old computer (specs in a mo), It's a clean install.
I noticed the windows were very slow when moving them around so I figured the graphics card driver was not right, so I downloaded the correct (I hope it's correct!) driver and set about trying to install it.
I pressed alt+ctrl+f1
then logged in,
sudo stop lightdm
then sudo sh NV
Jittery/shakey... I don't know exactly what word to use. English isn't my first language.
But when I keep my finger still on the touchpad, the mouse pointer seems to keep moving rapidly within a tiny square area.
GTK seems sluggish in general on my system; controls seem to have about a 1/4 to 1/8 second delay. This happens with both Unity (with the Ambiance theme) and Gnome 3 (with Adwaita). All controls seem to be affected, but menus are especially noticeable - first a shadow will appear, then an empty menu, then the text on the menu.
Hello all. A few days ago, I noticed that the Dash in Ubuntu 12.04 is not getting any applications I ask it to. For instance, I'll open the Dash by hitting the Windows key. I'll try to search for "Firefox", but it lists Files and Folders. I'll even trying going into the Applications menu, but no applications are being listed.
